I brought the broken egg into the brooder and wrapped it in a damp paper towel so I can assist with hatching if need be, I took some of the shell off and what I could that didn't cause bleeding, I freed the beak and now the chick seems to be moving a lot more, working at getting out itself...

My hens occasionally lays eggs while roosting at night, they are rubbery without a shell, she will then lay normally 24 hours later or even the same day depending. They are 6.2 months old, 24/7 free range, access to water and Purina layer mash and southern state chick starter at all times...
