I got a Welsummer and a Golden Wyandotte chick at Easter (along with 3 other pullets) and yesterday one of them started crowing. I'm not sure yet which he is - Wyandotte or Welsummer but I will have photos later. He has a beautiful blue tail and seems to be a good rooster so far. However, I live...
My hen is fine. She molted early which made her look really bad but she is fully recovered now both from the molt and the bumblefoot. I ended up getting antibiotics for her but the vet said her feet looked good. ($$$) I went to a place here in Cherry Hill that does treat birds.
Thank you...
I found a vet near me (called around and found two in the area that treat bumblefoot). We cut because the spot was huge and yes followed Chicken Chick's video tutorial. I suspect using needlenose pliers could have helped though we did have tweezers. It was just no fun at all. She is molting now...
Hi everyone, I have a lovely speckled sussex with bumblefoot on both feet. We treated one foot but not terribly successfully and I simply don't have the stomach for the cutting/digging part again. We soak and rebandage the feet and can manage that part of the treatment but I'm not willing to do...
Not certain about exact reasons, only that enough complaints have come from neighbors, etc to the city offices that I guess they got tired of it? The town WAS a farming community, so that was why chickens have been allowed, but it is really not a farming town anymore. That is my best guess.
Hey everyone, a friend who works in city hall in Cherry Hill tells me that Cherry Hill (south jersey) is going to outlaw chickens.
they are going to grandfather in the current chicken keepers but new owners won't be allowed.... That is all I know so far.
Just a heads up.
cherry hill is going to outlaw chickens soon. Already working on it according to a little bird who works there. People with chickens will be grandfathered in, but.... that is all I know so far.
Thank you all for your thoughts and Chickerdoodle, thank you for your advice. It was a rough few days. And I think mame1616 is correct - it is their very quirky qualities that draw us into loving those silly birds. I just didn't expect to love them that much!
Cheers!
Well, you can buy a Marek vaccination on line. I read that today here on BYC. If you buy from a hatchery you can request they vaccinate. I'd do it just in case.
Our hen didn't have Marek's according to the vet. She had a traumatic back injury he thought, that caused the paralysis - she weighed...
Thank you for your suggestions. MUCH appreciated! If if is a vitamin deficiency, what do you recommend for dosing? (Can just buy them at tractor supply, right? Or give polyvisol kid vitamins?)
I've been reading about vitamin deficiencies - and it could be that- so maybe I'll hold off on the...
Hi, I'm pretty certain my 9 month old easter egger has Mareks. She can't walk at all. The other hens (naturally!) pecked her head before I found her, and since Friday she has been in my spare bedroom in a dog crate. I treated her wounds with blu-cote. At first she ate the layer pellets and...
MOVED TO NJ THREAD. (sorry about the location mistake.) (Advice still welcome!)
