I have 5 hens in an 8x9 run. They were raised together since 2 days old, in April they will be 3 years old.
A few weeks ago one of them started to through a hard molt. It’s not the first time one of them have molted. I’ve never had any issues. But this time they attacked her so bad, her wings...
I mean besides a few missing feathers she has no bald spots and pretty feathered. I give the whole flock extra protein because one of them is molting and has missing heathers in the front. She was broody so she plucked her belly feathers, maybe she plucked a few tail feathers?
I got her last last April 2022, so she’s about a year and a half old. Her comb is returning to normal and she’s eating and drinking. The other hens have been picking on her a lot because she’s had bouts of broodiness and I’ve had to break her out of it. She wasn’t sleeping in the roost and...
I got my chickens april 22, so I’m new at this. All my other hens are acting normal. We did have a big rain storm, muddy run (even though it’s covered) put down saw dust in the run yesterday (wet down wood pellets)
I’ve looked through all the posts and I’m at a loss..
This morning I found her all fluffed up, hunched, pink comb, eyes closed standing on a one leg, refused to leave the coop. When I got her out she tried to hide under the coop.
I brought her inside, set up a cage, examined her, gave her...
I posted in a vet forum and I was told to treat with an injection Tylan 50 1 cc
I would prefer an antibiotic I can put in their water and treat the whole flock, I read this can be contagious.
I also live an hour away from tractor supply, so something I can order online is preferred
hens are 1 year old. Still laying. Could bald belly be a sign of mites? Pink, starting to turn red. 2 of 5 hens have a bald spot in the top of their head. Maybe bullying? Feather Picking?
I’m going to lime wash deep clean my coop for spring. Any specific tell tale signs of mites? Any safe...
She’s a golden comet I think, she looks nothing like her sisters. I was just concerned if she was being picked on or molting, I thought young birds don’t tend to mold until their second year. She’s the only one losing feathers
Hi! New chicken mom so as much as I’ve researched this on paper getting feedback is appreciated.
My chickens hatched last April so they are not even a year old. Egg production is good, not problems there. The rest of the flock isn’t having this issue. She is the runt and can be a little feisty...
I saw someone say they were dangerous for ducks. But I can’t find any info on whether it’s safe online at all. I was thinking of what climbing plant to trellis on my covered run for spring. But I’m not sure if I want to risk it 😕
I was collecting the cleanest eggs to water glass. I had two large mason jars I planned on using but didn’t have enough eggs to fill both. So my logic was to fill the jars with eggs and when they were both filled to add the solution.
Well not only did I notice these spots. But it’s smelled of...
