Update for anyone who might stumble on this: the white chicken lays blue eggs and the gray chicken lays green! They both started laying around 23-24 weeks.
Aww thank you. I ended up giving four of the ISAs my mom to start her own flock. I ordered four started pullets - a spitzhauben for white eggs and for looks, an Araucana for blue eggs, and a welsummer and Wyandotte because they are cute. Guess which two of the “pullets” ended up being roos? The...
I ordered 4 started pullets this week, including one Easter Egger and one Olive Egger. I realize they can look like almost anything but can anyone tell me which one is likely the EE and which is the OE? The birds in question are the white and the gray in the photos. They should be 6-7 weeks old...
Update in case anyone ever finds this thread when searching. I held out hope that some may be SGE but all 10 hens lay brown eggs and appear to be ISA browns.
One of my “ladies” was crowing this morning. By the time I got down there I couldn’t tell for sure who but I think it was my Araucana. The other possible suspects are an Appenzeller Spitzhauben, a Welsummer, and a Wyandotte that I also included some not so great pictures of. I am freaking out a...
I really wish I could have a rooster but sadly I can’t
This is definitely my worry, what is going to magically appear in these woods lol. I have less than an acre total and the woods are bordered on two sides by roads near the coop, so it’s not super rural which will probably work in my favor.
I have put my coop in the woods in the one flat area I could find. I will be closing the gap under the run that is shown in the photos, don’t worry. I would really like to expand the run to let the ladies roam in the woods but I’m not sure if it’s practical. I would like to put 6 foot fencing...
Thanks for sharing your experience. I really can’t tell about the pea combs but definitely no blue/black/slate legs. I did a lot of research before getting started but I still don’t understand how to identify some of the features at all. The “is this a hen or too” posts are completely baffling...
Trust me I’m already like this in general. I just put our coop up this weekend and was already like well maybe I can expand it on one side for more chickens. They aren’t even a week old yet haha
