My husband is unemployed, so I'm selling Jamberry nail wraps to try to make ends meet. In addition to the catalogue and holiday wraps (which you can see at http://10pigs.mort.net ) I also have nail wraps that I've made myself. I thought some of the people here might be interested in the pattern...
Moved to Saugerties, got chickens, learned to process chickens, left Saugerties and gave away a bunch of birds for free on CL. Moved to Kingston, had a fire, had a shooting, moved to Woodstock, had the house burn to the ground, was homeless, moved to Kingston and then dh lost his job. Yeah...
That sums it up. All I'm trying to do is find out information. Insisting "I feed it so it's okay" tells me nothing, but neither does "Duh, does your bird meow?". I know that too much salt is bad, but I don't know how much salt is okay to feed them. I know too much fat is bad, but I don't...
I don't think you guys get it. I'm not *PLANNING* to give them cat food. I'm trying to understand if it's safe to and if so, how much is safe. I have never once said I AM GOING to feed them cat food. Some people say it's good, some people say it's bad and I'm JUST TRYING TO SORT OUT THE FACTS.
Yes. That is a very reasonable concern and honestly the only reason I'd considered not doing it at all. The compromise I'd come up with (which is probably me just deluding myself, but I'm on month eight of unemployment here) is that the more natural brands of cat foods are still better than...
Because it's cheaper than buying humanely raised or reasonably fresh meat and the stuff in the supermarket around here is nearly spoiled when you first bring it home. My options are rather limited.

I got the joke and I laughed. Now can you answer me? I'm trying to create a scenario where I can keep the birds as healthy on as little money as possible. Obviously cat food is not an appropriate thing to ONLY feed them. Obviously a small amount won't kill them because so many people's birds...
*grin* OK, so I read your whole thing and most of it makes sense, except the comment about the cat food. If I was to get *FREE* cat food, how much cat food can I safely use to supplement the GBS before the salt becomes a problem?
OK, so I've got a question and it's HYPOTHETICAL. I'm not saying this is my plan. I just want to know what would happen, ok?
What would happen if you gave them a combination of gbs, worms/bugs, catfood, human food scraps (perhaps emphasizing protein and minimizing sodium), maybe some ground...

Yeah, it'll get colder than that where I live. I've got an unheated sunroom, though, which is cold but nowhere near that cold. I think I'll be keeping them in there from the beginning due to problems with the neighbors. It may be legal with a license, but they file enough complaints...

The faraway country of NY.
If you have an establishment that recycles building materials, you can find a wealth of things to use. Some people have even used large baking sheets to put under the hardware cloth for drop pan. Others have reported using just a plastic "feed sack" on top...
