Hen Cant Walk, Any Ideas on Injury?

ok when I pick her up she has SLIGHT movement in legs. She laid an egg, and had enough umph to get out of nest box. She seems distressed if I touch her near base of tail area/body (opens beak pants) she has tail mobility. I just have her on fresh chips in coop w/heat lamp and food/water. Any...

Hen Cant Walk, Any Ideas on Injury?

She was happy running around yesterday. She is vocal, ate this morning and can move her head around. She somehow made her way to the front of a nest box. I will check the feet. If I lift her up she immediately drops back down on breast. Wings fully functioning. She is not however limping, she...

Hen Cant Walk, Any Ideas on Injury?

My hen was up on her roost this morning. I went out there not too long ago to discovery she cannot walk. I suspect she somehow injured herself coming off the roost. I cannot feel anything broken/out of place. Does anyone have a suggestion on what she may of injured? Can chickens have spinal...

    One mean hen

Looking forward to the replies. Mine are 13 weeks this weekend. My one older is puffing up defensive posture to everything and chasing the crap put of the younger crew. Not sure they will ever mix! I am on the fence on what to do. Take comfort, you are not alone!

Hope it isn't that either Bec. Sounds pretty much useless! Jersey Giant sounds pretty good compared huh? LOL, Sorry had to pick on you. I still think my 1 girl is a giant. Yellow feet bottoms compared to the other 2. Take it back to the bin. Toss it in and sneak another...

When to turn off the light?

Mine are 6 weeks as well and have just graduated to outside. I have a 60watt I turn on at dusk. Once they are settled and in I turn the light off for the night. They go right to bed. There is really no reason to keep it on all night. they are fully feathered mini chickens, so may as well get...

Do chickens mourn when one chicken was taken? Is it suitable to replace a lost hen with one the sam

I agree. I think they know who their buddies are. You can't just replace it with another bird. It really does not work that way from what I have seen in my experience.

Question About Nest Boxes "Outside" Coop Frame..........

Thank you everyone for your input!........I got my coop, which is being delivered today. The coop is not a coop but a shed. They will have a window and doors open pending good weather so they should have decent ventilation. We do need to make some modifications but the prices for the fancy cute...

    Hen Laying Just Membranes.....Ongoing issue........

I dont think so, the other girl is perfectly fine with no issues. I just assumed I got a bad batch of birds. I have tried oyster shell seperate, mixed w/feed. I crush up egg shells and give back as well. they are free ranged so to speak but are limited to my backyard. Thank you for your response.

    Sexing Barred Rocks

How about this one folks? Last weeks pic. Her actual comb isn't red yet, but around the nasal cavity is turning red. The other 2 are still yellow. She has no wattles developed yet. This is just shy of 5 weeks.

How to introduce pullets into coop?

You are not alone. I will soon be in the same scenario. I have been reading, researching, and reading some more. I have 6 new chicks that need to integrate with 2 older girls this summer. I plan on keeping them seperate until the chicks are at least 3/4 the size of the mature hens. I think I have...

    Hen Laying Just Membranes.....Ongoing issue........

The brand varies, but Dumor laying crumbles is usually what they get. Yes they free range during day. The so called egg she is laying isn't intact, its just "matter" that passes out of her. Been on and off with her for about a year.
