She's doing worse - eating and drinking much less and is having a hard time holding her head up now. No new chickens recently; I don't think she was laying over the last few weeks; her weight has severely dropped; no mites/lice; droppings look normal. I'm stumped.
My 3 year old barred rock has been increasingly laying down more and More over the last week, once she lays down her wings gets very droopy too. She's not roosting at night, but is eating and drinking still. Can walk short distances just fine, but then collapses. Other girls are acting normal...
Her leg isn't paralyzed- she can move it and move her toes a bit, they just don't seem to move how she wants them to. I'll start her on vitamins and minerals tomorrow. Any thoughts on splinting her toes into correct placement?
Any suggestions on helping this pullet walk normally? I think she's probably about 15 weeks. Eating, drinking, pooping normal, and doesn't appear to be in pain. Separated her as I first suspected a broken leg. It's clearly the toes/foot now.
Here is a link to the DIY brooder that my husband and I put together. There are pictures, explanations, and links to materials we used. It worked great for our 7 chicks and cost us under $25! http://bittersweethomestead.wordpress.com/2014/06/01/diy-brooder/
Eggcessive, thanks for the response! We had another chick who had similar symptoms a few weeks ago, and everyday I thought I would find her dead, but she pulled through and seems very healthy now. She is still smaller than the others, but is catching up. I am hoping that this will be a similar...
Hello! My name is Sarah and I am originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, but now live outside of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania! My husband and I got out first chicks (Dominiques) a little over a month ago and it has been quite the experience! While it was devastating losing 2 to illness in the...
Hello. I have a 7 week old Dominique who just started having issues walking and standing last night. She does have spurts of movement in her legs and can walk, but is very wobbly and tends to fall forward. For the most part, when she’s laying down she’s keeping her legs underneath her. She can...
Thanks, Eggcessive. I feel terrible I couldn't save the one, but I guess that happens sometimes. I want to do whatever I can to make sure it doesn't happen again. I got Corid powder today. If the chicks are eating medicated feed, is it helpful to use the Corid as a preventative? Or should it...
I have 7 chicks who are all around 10-15 days old. One has been laying on her side all morning and when I pick her up she doesn't bother to open her eyes. She'll even take a few steps and lay back down on her side, but her eyes are still closed. Does anyone have any advice? Should I even be worried?
