Oh that's a great idea! I do have an avian vet in my area and a Rooster Home and Hardware near me. I definitely want to make sure he can be taken care of and not euthanized since he seems well behaved and will probably be a prettier rooster for someone's flock after he molts the damaged feathers off
Thank you for the reply. You're right. A lot of people say he's a Naked Neck, though his belly is completely bare and his tail feathers are falling out, so he's not in top shape (and the person who ditched him tied him up and left him out in roughly 90 degree heat).
Yes I am! I actually had to...
That would definitely explain the state of him! What an awful situation. I can't believe they'd tie him up like that. Hopefully I can find a rescue that will not euthanize a rooster
Thank you for the advice! Thankfully a lot of people are agreeing he looks like a naked neck cockerel, so I'm glad that he hasn't endured such large amounts of feather plucking (even though his other feathers are in pretty bad shape).
I'll definitely look and see if there are any places that...
I know! I don't know how he ended up tied up like this. I hate to think he was taken from his owner and treated so poorly, but I'm also afraid that he was treated like this by his owner, so I don't know where to post about him.
Thank you for that advice! I recently rehomed my laying hens because...
Thanks for the info! I'm glad people are agreeing he's a naked neck and not suffering from feather plucking (though his tail's in pretty bad shape and falling out, so I hope getting some food in him will help)
Thank you for the info! I'm so glad someone didn't pluck all those feathers before tying him up, though I still feel so bad for him. I'm in the DFW area in Texas
EDIT **Thankfully, people are saying this is a Naked Neck rooster and not a plucked rooster. I've edited the title to say "neglected" instead of "abused," but I do want to mention that the bird is missing his belly feathers and is losing tail feathers, so he's still a little rough even for a...
Thank you for the advice! I feel so sad that I may have to rehome them, but I definitely want to make sure they get the love and attention they deserve, which I'm afraid won't be enough while I'm transitioning to a new living situation. I will definitely look into the sites you recommended.
Why I am considering selling:
I have four wonderful birds, but when I got my chickens, I was living at home with my parents. I am their caregiver, and my parents do not have the know-how to care for these birds (such as noticing if one is behaving differently). I will be beginning a full time...
Entries! Sorry about the quality of some of the photos! Photographed are Nore (Barred Rock with floppy comb), Jakobe (Splash Orpington), and Faro (Barred Rock with upright comb)
(If this is too many photos to enter, I can pick fewer!
Hi! I'm not new to BYC, but I don't usually post. There are so many good threads that I hardly have to ask new questions. I have one burning question however that would be so interesting for me to find an answer to.
I've heard that some hatcheries breed leghorns into their birds to up their egg...
