My Spanish Blacks are currently sitting on 14 chicken eggs and only one of their own. They started just before Easter. Now, the chicks have started hatching; but I'm concerned about the turkey egg. I know the incubation period is longer, but I'm totally clueless on hatching...first time ever...

We are new to raising chickens, but have a few BR roos. Our boys have had pretty dominant characteristics, so far. They have been pretty independent when compared to our Cochin and Buff Orp roos. I think they make really beautiful roosters, so we are glad to have them.

My nine year old has the chicken bug, bad! We lost her the other day; absolutely couldn't locate her around the farm. I finally looked under the coop. There she was... covered in roosting chicks! She's raised them, so she's the momma. They all LOVE her. Now we sit together in our camp...

I guess I should have clarified...Being from Texas, where the heat is well over 100 degrees, I'm accustomed to seeing my birds run from shady spot to shady spot. It would be worrisome, to me, if one of my gals sat out in the open for days on end. Thanks for responding!
