it's -15F here in Southern Ontario today and all my chickens are hanging out outside of their heated house. For some reason they just prefer to be outside even in this cold. The run is protected from the wind on 3 sides by plastic so I guess its not too bad in there. The hen house itself has...
My hen seems to be doing better today, but she's still quite a mess. I was wondering if I need to worry about getting more of the dried blood off of her head or if I should just leave it. If I do need to get the blood off, what's the best procedure. Her comb is definitely "dangly" and I'll...
I've been through the forums and I know this has been dealt with, but I'm having some issues with the standard "cures" and was hoping for some guidance.
One of my 7 month old RIR hens got into a scuffle and has had about 0.5cm of her comb ripped from the back. She's a bit of a bloody mess...

Not sure what I have in terms of breed (that's another post altogether), but production red or RIR whichever I have, I've two laying at 18 weeks and nothing yet from the others (now 20 weeks).
I have 9 chickens raised from chicks. I ordered RIRs but, according to many of the forums I've been reading, it's not unusual for the hatchery to simply send production reds and pass them off as RIRs (?!?).
As I have 9 chickens, should I be posting individual pictures of all of them? I don't...
Our RIRs just turned 18 weeks and we got our first 2 eggs today. Next step is to figure out which ones are roos and which ones are hens... I've got some with green colouring (apparently roos) with small combs and wattles (apparently hens?) and others without green, smaller, rounder and huge...
