19 and a half weeks old and still no eggs :( egg countdown anyone??

I have 3 warrens and 1 brahma mix - they are about 25-27 weeks and I still have no eggs!!
I'm not sure about Warrens or Brahmas, but there are definitely breeds that will be late bloomers...heavier breeds I have heard will lay later than light-weight egg specific breeds like Leghorns and RIRs. My Leghorn was exactly 16 weeks when she layed her first egg, and she is a machine now. She layed one just a few days later that was double yolk! My Ameracauna started a week later at 17 1/2 weeks, which is odd because I have heard that they are supposed to be late bloomers as well but she has always had the most boisterous personality so I'm not suprised. Try going out to pick them up (hopefully they are friendly), if they squat for you (hunker down with their wings slightly out), they are really close to laying. Make sure they know the nest boxes, try putting them in the boxes from time to time to show them where, and make sure you are putting dummy eggs in there to encourage them to lay there, and NOT in the yard somewhere. Make sure they are on layer feed and maybe even extra oyster shell so their eggs come out smoothly and have good hard shells. Make sure that you are giving them plenty of clean fresh water. Laying hens (at least mine) drink a lot more water. Lastly, make sure they are not too stressed by excess noise in the nest area (if you can help it) make sure the coop and run are clean and that they have nice shady places to relax. Heat can take a major toll on chickens so if it is hot where you are they not only may lay later than normal, but they may not be as regular.

Mine are 21 weeks and still no eggs. I have 2 Barred Plymouth Rocks & 2 Buff Orpingtons!!! I look all in the nesting boxes in the morning and then all around the yard every afternoon after work!!!

G wait in front of me........Some time in November I should be seeing some eggs! "if" I have any hens NOT all roo's! lol

Our new batch of barred rocks and sex-links are just beginning to lay and they are about 20 weeks. I do remember our Americaunas started laying way later then our Rhode islands. I love their colorful eggs, but they are not consistent layers. Enjoy that first egg when it comes, it is so exciting!:D

what is hthis "squatting" you guys are talking about and they get redder combs and wattles before they lay??????

Squatting: The pullet will lower her body, slightly spreading her legs and slightly holding her shoulders out. It is a stance in preparation for a rooster to step onto her back for mating.

Yes they get redder combs and wattles before they lay. Their combs usually get bigger too, depending on the breed. Its one of the signs of sexual maturity. If you have a cockerel you can easily spot him because he matures much faster than the pullets do.

Our RIRs just turned 18 weeks and we got our first 2 eggs today. Next step is to figure out which ones are roos and which ones are hens... I've got some with green colouring (apparently roos) with small combs and wattles (apparently hens?) and others without green, smaller, rounder and huge combs and wattles.... gonna have to post some pics and get some help I think...

If they're at 18 weeks and you have to "figure out" which ones are males... you may not have any males. I imagine they would be crowing by now but maybe not? Strange birds. My baby boys start crowing at 8-10 weeks but then they aren't RIRs.
