    Silver Laced Orpingtons (LF)

I know this was almost a year ago, but I am curious if you ever got an answer to this? I had the same thing happen.

I have gotten chicks from both Cackle and Murdochs (here in Hamilton) both places have done me well. ;)

    Cuckoo Bluebar...

I don’t. They were some extra eggs that were included in a rare breed sale. The lady has been wonderful about communicating so I have absolutely no complaints, but it will definitely be interesting to see what happens with these babies... I thought at first they were blue isbars, but when I...

    Cuckoo Bluebar...

So I admit I skimmed over this thread, so I am trying to glean the basics...?basically there is no way of knowing if the chicks produced in a second generation blue bar cross will be carrying the white laying gene? Man, that seems awfully hard to eradicate! I have three third generation chicks...

Help w/ Boiling Fresh Laid Eggs

I just bring my water to a boil, add the eggs with a spoon, and after they are done I put them in ice cold water to cool. I don't have any problems. ;)

I realize. There is always risk, even in our own lives in the human race. I also am aware that we can't trust others to be ethical, unfortunately. I wish we could. I was hoping to find people who show and see what their steps were to keep their birds as safe as possible considering higher risk...

    Showing and disease management

If what I am reading is correct, aren't you risking it just having them? Or going to a feed store? I assume most people don't keep their chickens in a completely sterile environment behind lock and key? The reason I wanted to show is to work on understanding the breed standards better. Showing...

    Showing and disease management

Oh I definitely agree. I had a bird get sick this year. I thought for sure it was probably Mareks, but the necropsy came back negative. Before that, I really wasn't as worried about it. I was reading a forum somewhere about a guy with a breeding flock and it had Mareks, but he pretty much just...

This is interesting. I think my biggest fear would be Mareks as it takes so long to show and it is virtually impossible to get rid of. I love all of your input on this.

    Boys? Girls? Thoughts? :)

They are two different lines though. The two smaller ones are greenfire, the larger one is from a different import I am told.

    Boys? Girls? Thoughts? :)

I am having a brain block moment... dang it for age! I believe the silvers I ordered from a gentleman in Ohio. He had a posting on eBay once that I went back and found because I had ordered some gold Laced and they got lost by the post office. By the time I got them they were soup which seems to...

    Showing and disease management

I have just heard that most flocks have been exposed to one strain or the other. Basically that it's widely spread. It seems that any disease that can be carried by wild birds or the wind is a concern and there are a lot of backyard flocks here in the valley. I guess we just have to keep the...

    Boys? Girls? Thoughts? :)

Oh, that's a good comparison. I am not sure it makes me feel better! :D The one I have the most hen hope for is quite a bit bigger than the other two in overall size and legs. The smaller one with patterning looks like she (thinking positive) might be starting to develop a comb. Guess a couple...

Ya, from what I am reading that sure seems to be the case.
