Hello All,
We had our first real drop in temperature Saturday night (not that cold here...just below freezing)
The morning after, I had two hens in the coop not doing very well.
One was sitting by the water dish, with whole body trembling and having trouble standing. I brought her into the...
There is a rooster. Though, he's maybe not the best fooder finder😅.
Sometime he calls the ladies over for twigs or pieces of cardboard, and they look at him like "nope...that's not food".
So over the past couple of weeks, my Buff Orpington seems to have picked up some rooster behaviour? I've read about crowing, but that's not it. Sometime when she's free ranging, and she finds some nice food, she does the repeating "coo" sounds and tells me about it(like the rooster does)...
She's walking a lot better! I'm feeling really good about her recovery.
I had trouble putting the kennel with the flock the first two days, just because she would get too active and then the leg seemed worse (Which was tough, as she was missed! Day 2, her sister Hanz escaped the run and was...
That's a relief! She's definitely not super happy to be in the dog kennel, but hopefully it's just a strain and she bounces back quick.
The rooster..he was worst last year, and has been better with me lately. This is the first time he's come at me in a long time (maybe even months).
He does...
All I could find was there was a little bit of blood on her right side (left side in the picture). It doesn't seem swollen though or anything @nuthatched @Jenbirdee
Here's a video of her being unsteady. Let me see about getting the wrap off and a picture of her ankle. I don't think the wrap is helping her very much. https://drive.google.com/file/d/11x5XdcRbVhhL9FzgYNftQanIAlQQMpML/view
Would appreciate your advice! My 2 year old hen, Franz, hurt her leg. I'm not sure what happened exactly :-(. It maybe could have happened in the commotion when the rooster attacked me this morning when I was getting them food and water, but I am not sure. I'm not sure if she ran away and...
I just wanted to thank everyone for their help, and I'm so grateful for this group. She did pretty well for about two months. Her appetite perked up, and most days she was with the flock for at least part of the day. She ate a lot of tasty treats, and enjoyed foraging in the garden. I set...
She's still a yard chicken by day, and a house chicken by night(there is not enough forage food in the main run, and most of the food she will eat(like egg) in bigger amounts, the others will eat immediately... I've been having her in a side run to make sure she's eating enough, but still in...
Still not full appetite, but it's a little better day by day. Worms, grasses, and egg are still the favourite, but she will eat a little corn, and today pecked at her food a little bit.
Rooster actually got her to eat some soldier fly larvae today(it was very cute). She is in close to the...
Hello! :-).
That's a good tip for sure about Uptown!
She's still in her own garden run. I've been having good luck getting her to eat egg yolks, and today she's having some corn, so it helps. She's still not up to her normal appetite, but I think it's getting a little better day by day...
She is a very spirited! A fighter. She found more worms today. :-)
She is very hunting oriented, and isn't very interested in any food that's not worm-like. I tried soldier fly larvae, eggs, tomatoes, grapes, and yogurt and she just isn't interested. She is very interested in hunting...
