    Post-rescue decline

Thanks for checking in. Unfortunately whatever she was battling was too much for her and I found her dead last night. Maybe shock? I saw no wounds. But I really appreciate your help an ideas through this!

    Post-rescue decline

Our Easter Egger has had quite the few days. Three days ago, we thought she was taken by a hawk (she didn’t return to the coop and we couldn’t find her when we searched our property). Yesterday, we discovered her - she had wedged herself under our coop. We got her out, and she seemed fine...

Can I successfully raise turkeys in woods?

Curious about this too. Did you end up trying turkeys in the woods? Any luck?

    Head trauma - wry neck?

Thanks for the advice and encouragement! Update! Chicken is alive and still requiring feeding but has shown improvements. Standing on its own, chowing down mash from a cup we hold for her, and drinking the same manner. 🙌🙏 Have been giving supplements. Planning on continuing as long as...

    Head trauma - wry neck?

Thank you! I really appreciate your reply and suggestions I’ve been giving the Sav-a-Chick electrolyte powder which included e and b but I’ll check the doses - it’s probably it’s not a lot. She is still not really moving. Still pooping, and lapping the liquid and watery mash I spoon into her...

    Head trauma - wry neck?

Our 14 week chick had accidental head trauma Tuesday (stick fell on head). Immediately had issues with balance, and was twisting head to the right constantly. It tried to eat initially, but has worsened. Now it sleep all day, rarely moves except with jerky legs/wings. It does move its tongue...

    Hands on hatching and help

Hi veteran helpers! I'm on day 22 of my first incubation and - of 18 eggs - only one has pipped, and this pipper has been slloooow. How much more should I help it along? After some fixing some humidity issues, this chick has been working 36 hours. Considering the conditions, I have flaked...

Day 22 - incubator dried out over night. One egg still working at dime-size hole (24hrs) . Can eggs

Oh wow - I believe it. It's one of those exactly. Something to fix next time. I did find it was leaking water out of one of the reservoirs, but now it is definitely humid inside.

Day 22 - incubator dried out over night. One egg still working at dime-size hole (24hrs) . Can eggs

Stillair Styrofoam incubator, no hydrometer. The earlier weeks were also in the 40s, and even now, with full reservoirs for a few hours, wet paper towels, and moisture/steam slightly fogging the glass, it STILL says 42%. That does make me skeptical of the built-in meter. I took a couple...

Day 22 - incubator dried out over night. One egg still working at dime-size hole (24hrs) . Can eggs

Trouble with the humidity all along. Even with water in the bottom, only reached over 50% once in the last day, and then it dried out last night. I just water-tested a dozen eggs, and all seemed to "low float" - so maybe it is just a late-hatching bactch. But considering the low humidity, I'm...
