    D'uccle Thread

Hey Everyone, I have an auction going on thepoultrybid.net for a hand painted ceramic plate with a Beautiful D'uclle hen. I found this a few years back at an antique store. Thought maybe someone with a passion for D'uccles would enjoy it :)...

Keeping Guineas away from the Chickens

Hello, I have a friend that has a bunch of free ranging chickens along with a few guineas, but has been having problems with the guineas being very mean to the chickens, even to the point where the chickens stay in constant hiding. Is there any possible way other than just to...

    Silkie thread!

Sometimes silkies will get "leakage" in their hackles which is just off coloring, not solid coloring usually just ticking, for example black's sometimes will have gold leakage in the hackles. Hope this was of some help :)

    Silkie colour question :)

There is absolutely no telling, it all just depends what "hidden" genes these birds may carry.

    Need some help with showing

Quote: The first thing that I would do is definitely make sure that this is the breed that you're going to want to stick with. I know that several breeders have told me that Sebrights are VERY difficult to hatch and raise and in order to win have to be just shy of perfect. Once you find a...

    breeds & silkies

Quote: From the way you formed your question its almost like you don't really want them. I don't suggest anyone choose a breed just because a bunch of us lunatics are addicted to the breed. Most of us have 50 or more Silkies. That right there says they are no harder to care for than any other...

    breeds & silkies

My silkies usually start getting them in the fall when it begins to cool and then usually they go away in the spring, but I don't know it this is the same case for others. When I notice some mites I give them a couple squirts with Adam's Flea and Tick spray and they go right away,

I hate to break it to you, but any breed of chickens are bound to get mites at some point. Mites can be controlled by dusting, spraying, dips....etc.

In my opinion silkies are not any harder to take care of. You just have to watch for mites as they LOVE to hide in all that fluff, and if you're showing just have to keep their feathers in condition. But as far as just having silkies go, they aren't very high maintenance ...........IMO anyway

Quote: Is it the lighting in the pic, or does she have silver in her hackles and wing? The off coloring is just from the lighting she has no leaking or anything.
