    Naked Broilers Okay Outside

My broilers are 4 1/2 weeks old. They've been outside for the last few weeks with an attached enclosure with a heat lamp. Temps are in the lows around mid 60s. I want to start moving the chicks onto new grass but I have to take away the heat lamp. The only issues is they are definitely NOT fully...

Cloudy eye/How do you give a chicken eye drops?

So the Terramycyin has been working well. She's opening her eye now and back to her normal strength. However there is still some puss in there and I know if we could just get it out she could probably see fine. My problem now is that I just can't hold her still to squeeze anything out of her...

Cloudy eye/How do you give a chicken eye drops?

Wow. This is great. I think I can get some Terramycin at a local store. She is staying in the coop a lot more. Thanks so much.

Cloudy eye/How do you give a chicken eye drops?

A few days ago I noticed my favorite hen keeping one of her eyes closed. When she opened it, it looked fine but each day the eye has gotten cloudier until today it is almost completely white. I suspect she got in a fight since a few hours before I first noticed it she was with another hen...

    Chicks eating pine shaving specks

Ok, thanks. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being careless. I guess I'm just a nervous new mother!

    Chicks eating pine shaving specks

My chicks are a week old. I've been putting paper towels over the pine shavings until they get used to the food. Every time I pull up the paper towels, thinking they are ready for the pine shavings, they go crazy and start eating all the little specks of pine shavings. I've tried putting the...

Thanks! That's what I was afraid of.

Using Straw inside Walls for Insulation?

I'm thinking about putting extra plywood on the inside of my coop and filling the void between the inside and the outside wall with straw. I'm wondering how this will hold up after a few years. Would the straw rot? Get fungus or mold? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hi Okies! I recently moved to Mcloud, OK and I'm looking for fellow chicken lovers in the Shawnee/Harrah/Eastern OKC area. I would love to find someone that would be interested in "chicken-sitting" while I am on vacation. I would return the favor anytime you go on vacation! I wouldn't expect you...

Egg binding symptoms but no egg??

She is about a year and half old. She has been drinking a lot of water since it's hot here. I don't have any pictures but her droppings are mostly white with a little bit of solid brown and a tinge of yellow. She ate all of the egg I gave her and has been drinking water with nutri drench and...

Egg binding symptoms but no egg??

My hen Dinah has been acting lethargic lately. She's been laying thin shelled eggs but occasionally I find one of her eggs with excess calcium deposits. I have always given them oyster shell and their own egg shells for them. When she wouldn't get up this morning, I suspected egg binding. She...

    Fleas? Depluming mite?

Have you had any success treating your chickens? I'm thinking mine have depluming mites too.

    Rooster being mean to hens

Darn. I was hoping this was a teenage rooster stage that he might outgrow. I guess I should get rid of him before I get more attached.

    Rooster being mean to hens

I have a similar situation with my one-year old roo being overly aggressive while mating the hens. I've got saddles on the worst ones but he is still plucking out the feathers on their heads. He's tried to attack me a few times but it's pretty rare. I think if he attacked me daily, I'd be...

    Help! Chicken in shock?

Thanks for your quick response. She just passed away. I have no idea what it could be. It seems that she felt a little underweight. Right before I got her, I noticed the rooster trying to mount her. She was also lying in the part of the coop that gets the most afternoon sun. I'm not sure how...
