sounds like she could be egg bound. have you given her warm baths to try & help her get the egg out maybe? i think you can give aspirin to chickens in water, if you google it you can find the dose.
you are a good chicken mother worrying about her comfort, she’s lucky you are looking out for her.
maybe some meloxicam from vet or aspirin in her water to help the inflammation? my duck is having walking problems & i brought her to the vet. would not recommend that unless they know about ducks which this one doesn’t. good luck, i hope your baby is better soon!
please help guys! i’m at vet & pippi is breathing fast. did i give her too much aspirin? i gave her 81mg about 3 hours ago. she was eating & drinking fine & now is very stressed, vet does not seem to know what is going on. gave pippi sedation & she calmed right down. i just want to take her...
oh i didn’t know this about mpc, holy cow. i thought the birds were very nicely secured when shipped & they have been very healthy until this issue today. thx for info on the bath, i sure don’t want more issues than we already have. i’ll keep w/ the baby aspirin & will try the watm
bath & rest.
no, i got these from my pet chicken. i haven’t supplemented niacin b/c i read that mealworms are a good source & they love them. i am going to try an epsom salt bath & maybe another baby aspirin later. thanks for your thoughts.
one drake for 3 females. he is pretty gentle & i haven’t seen much in that way going on recently but i’m not out there all the time. i don’t know if she specifically is laying, egg production dropped drastically when the weather turned cold last month & among the 3 of them we get maybe one egg a...
i don’t give niacin supplements but i give then several servings of meal worms per day as i had read that this was a good way to supplement b vitamins & niacin. no scabs, no deformity, no swelling or tenderness at all.
today one of my swedish blue ducks is limping severely & not wanting to get up. i inspected her foot/leg & there is no injury & no apparent tenderness, swelling or deformity. she is eating/drinking if the feeder/waterer is close enough but she can’t walk more than a couple of feet before lying...
no, right ankle is fine, just the bumble which i removed. she is doing better after bumble removal, is walking w/ no limp (has never limped) & is being more sociable. i soaked both feet last night, i guess i’ll keep doing that...?
