I've just found my first shell-less egg today - on the patio of all places. It would be from my silkie, and it would be her first egg. Her hatch-mate started laying 6 days ago, and we've had 6 eggs from her - both are fed exactly the same layers pellets, have oyster shell in their grit and...
I don't know for sure - the friend i got the eggs from said the mum was a RIR, and that's what the bird looked like to me. Perhaps there would be a genetic throwback somewhere eg a grandparent? Doris has black skin like my other full Silkie, if that makes any difference?
By the way, I have...
Interesting - the only male silkie i remember seeing on the farm was totally black - if he was her father, how come she's white? (I'm very new to chickens!)
Hello,
I would like to introduce 'Doris', who is a Silkie x RIR. She's 20 weeks old, yet to lay an egg, and this is her favorite place to be in the garden. I love her to bits :)
Hi,
Not sure about this one - has a mark on it's head, but has the female 'eyeliner' and a darker back then the other definite male, so i'm confused as to it's gender. What do you think?
Thanks - my daughter loves them :)
I had 12 eggs from ebay - 6 had nothing in them by day 7, 6 were good. Just had a peek, and 2 more of these 6 are pipping/cracking. Egg-citing!
I can't wait to see more pics of other peoples birds :)
These were Ebay eggs - i am new to chickens, got my first eggs from a friends flock, but wanted a few breeds that were different. I have lavender orps too which hatched 4 weeks ago - i am in love i tell you!
