Here's my CLB at 4 weeks old.

This one is Fancy since she was the first to get a crest.

Wow!!! I don't have any with a crest like that top one. I also didn't end up with any with negligible crests like the bottom one ether though. Mine are all in the middle. I have another 2 dozen eggs in the incubator then it looks like I will be done hatching for quite a while. Hen "A" stopped laying for no reason (she looks healthy, and 100% of here eggs are on track at day 16 to hatch, but I fear the worst). Hen "B" has gone broody twice and is currently not laying eggs.
ya i really like her. she definitely has the best crest and one of her sisters is trying to match. but her crest is just not as wide spreading across the head. i thought i got pics of them both but in the pics it kinda looks like the same one... A 3rd chick has a crest like the light colored chick but its also more spread across her head like this one you commented on. I just love the light ones crest all the feathers must be almost perfectly lined up down her head because they all crest as a thin Mohawk .

you don't think your A hen is internally laying do you. or some type of ovarian cancer. That would be really really sad. can you feel around her body to detect these things or no. or do the dreaded finger up the yohoo technique. Good thing you got lots of daughters if something does go wrong with her. I will be believing its something simple and will pass. you often get what you think so good thoughts are coming your way. maybe you have psychic chicks and she just knows her eggs are being incubated so she naturally stopped laying. or with all these babies you have around maybe she thinks she is mothering them and stopped laying.

Looking forward to my little bunch of babies growing up like yours. I love these pictures, it is like a family album. We've come a long way since cream legbar threads have been up IMO as far as knowing more about the little rascals.

Me too -- I have a broody. She has 4-eggs and there are 7 in the incubator. I'm hoping I'll raise these six that hatched on Labor Day and she will raise any of the 11 eggs now incubating.

Photo of a happy (I hope ) broody who will (fingers crossed) go the distance.

AS far as going the distance i was supremely disappointed in my Redpyle OEG x ameraucana(EE LINES). the hatchery i use does really good EE.

.. But i got super lucky with a male almost perfect for red Pyle ameraucana(except for leg color) . Two females close to perfect for red Pyle but their beardless EE throws their look off a tiny bit. her and a Peking started to lay at 21 weeks and they are the only ones laying so far. She acted all crazy clucking all loud like I've never heard. the roo came over even and was answering her. she sat on that nest and he would visit her. that lasted for about an hour and then she left it. I was all sad.. I really wanted to see if i can get some proper "LOOKING" Red Pyle ameraucana from them.

I really hope yours does go the distance. It was so sad to see her abandon those eggs i wanted to hatch. after an hr lmao..

I purposely bought some silkies and Cochin's hoping they would be my natural hatches. I got a cheep incubator for the spring but i will be getting a cabinet sometime next year. I might have to sell off a vehicle, my bike or something but it will be worth it. haha.

Steen --

Yep it is so frustrating when they abandon the nest. I just have a 'feeling' about this one. Your project sounds interesting...so I'm glad that you are going to take matters into your own hands...one way or the other you will succeed in hatching those eggs. (minus a bike or vehicle) ;o) -- and then what will happen? The hen will really go broody! That's chickens for you.
