Is using tail feather to sex chicks accurate? Suspected male Cream Legbar is growing tail feathers rather quick?

Bought 2 chicks one is a Cream Legbar and the other is a RIR cross breed, I know white dot on head usually means male for a Cream Legbar from what I read on chicken blogs, female chicks grow out wing and tail feathers grow quick the RIR cross doesn't have either yet, so is this accurate to go off by

Nope, unless it's something that has been explicitly bred for feather growth is random. I've had pullets who feathered out quickly and pullets who feathered out extremely slowly (longest was I think 8 weeks before one was fully feathered?)

Hmm thanks for the reply will just have to wait and see what gender they turn out to be

Yes he grew up some more turned out to be a male.
Yeah, Cream Legbars are a fun autosexing breed so you can tell gender at day old; by head dot, coloring and specific chipmunk markings. 😊

Of course that trait can be lost if a breeder has a poor quality line and doesn’t continue to cull for unclear markings.

Your rr is so cute! Do you know what it is yet? I added a legbar rooster so my brown eggers can hatch chicks that lay green or olive eggs.My white eggers chicks can lay blue

its usually the pullets who get tails first but that isnt the case for every breed its only that way for certain breeds
