Can I bandage injured goose foot to return her to her flock?

I'll try wrapping her foor up in gauze to keep it clean then. I am worried about her being outside during the day until the fence is repaired because of the fox though. It took three chicks from me yesterday. I know it will go for a goose because I lost a goose back in March. She was one with an...

Can I bandage injured goose foot to return her to her flock?

I saw my favorite goose limping a couple days ago and noticed the swelling for the first time today. It looks like she has one very small knick in her middle toe. No other injuries we can see. My husband says it looks like bumblefoot. She probably got it jumping the fence in an area it has...

Rooster with large comb and head shaking

I have a rooster with a pea comb and he does this all the time. It doesn't hang in his eyes or anything. I came here hoping for an explanation or confirmation for of what I think it is. I think he's just being sassy. He's not aggressive at all but he'll shake his head and flap his wings when he...

Can northern bobwhites pair with Mexican speckled?

Kind of late. Saw this looking at something else. And yes. I have snowflake bobs, which are just a white mutation of the Mexican speckled. I have two flocks and one is a snowflake roo with 2 northern bob hens. They're very affectionate with each other. I get loads of fertile eggs from them and...

Will chickens sit on eggs to keep them from freezing even if they're not brooding?

Lucy was given her name as a matching set with another easter egger named Susy. That one turned out to be a rooster and not a very good one. As a result Susy graduated to our dinner plate. Lucy is a perfectly fine chicken. Not aggressive but not friendly. A pretty typical chicken. The 6 month...

Will chickens sit on eggs to keep them from freezing even if they're not brooding?

Seems that way. I'm going to go see if anyone is sitting right now. They've been out for a couple hours so everyone has had a chance to wake up and eat. By now most of them have likely escaped containment and are exploring the compost. Nope. They're in the neighbor's horse paddock. I need a new...

Will chickens sit on eggs to keep them from freezing even if they're not brooding?

You'd think the silly girls would sit by the light since it's warmer. At night some do. I don't think it will matter how many years I have chickens. I'll always be wondering what they're thinking. I think the easter egger and at least one conchin, Lilly again probably, are for certain going...

Will chickens sit on eggs to keep them from freezing even if they're not brooding?

I feared as much. My options for changing their mind is pretty limited this time of year. I can't use cold bottles, it's already freezing. I'm not home during the day most of the time to carry each one around. I can't boot them and lock up the coop to keep them out because they need the shelter...

Will chickens sit on eggs to keep them from freezing even if they're not brooding?

This easter egger is all gray with those brown streaks around her neck like a black sex-link. She's pretty high strung so she was the last chicken I would expect to go broody. Not that she seems to be interested in being a mama to chickens. She seems to want ducklings. 😆

Will chickens sit on eggs to keep them from freezing even if they're not brooding?

My chickens and ducks have recently started laying regularly again even though it's still freezing out and will be for a few more months. Every morning, noon and night there are three to five chickens that seem to be taking turns sitting on the eggs. I remove them regularly since it's way too...

Can much younger chicks be adopted by a hen that has already adopted month old chicks?

Didn't work out. They were already imprinted on the goslings.

Can much younger chicks be adopted by a hen that has already adopted month old chicks?

Even if the absolute worse was to happen I could chalk it up to one more traumatic learning lesson to not do that again. That being said I think I'll try setting up the animal play pen inside the chicken yard. They'll be surrounded by adult chickens but safe enough. If they're dumb enough to...

Can much younger chicks be adopted by a hen that has already adopted month old chicks?

I do actually have a small animal play pen I was using to keep the first hen and chicks separate from the flock. I could use that and use a kitty carrier to lock them up at night in the coop. If my adoptive hen really wants them I'm sure she will find a way to take them. It can't be much more...

Can much younger chicks be adopted by a hen that has already adopted month old chicks?

I do actually have a small outdoor rodent playpen I was using to keep the first hen and her chicks separated. I could probably shuffle them inside a kitty carrier for nighttime inside the coop. And if she really wants them I'm sure she will find a way to take them.

Can much younger chicks be adopted by a hen that has already adopted month old chicks?

Okay, this is a really weird situation. I had my favorite hen go broody a couple months back and hatched out five chicks for her to raise June 14th. She's raised them perfectly. I kept her separated from the main flock because of the meat turkeys. They were put in the freezer 4 days ago. I put...
