OK gave up..not one egg was fertile! really weird because it's one rooster and 2 hens, the last 2 years their eggs have had a really good hatching rate. One hen hatched 10 out of 11 eggs last year...rooster is 3, maybe he shoots blanks now!! lol
thanks..its day 25..2 of the 3 hens stay put! The 3rd is in and out...guess I should just pull the eggs, wait a few days and give them fresh if they still want to sit. I have had a better hatch rate with the hens...I too did the incubator. I like the hens doing all the work! lol
what is the longest eggs have taken to hatch under a hen? I have 3 hens that have been taking turns on the nest of 9 eggs. this is day 22 and no action yet! How long should I wait?? any advise please! Thanks!
anyone ever successfully help an egg bound hen? Been trying to help her get the egg out...but no luck! Have soaked her in warm water lubed her and given her calcium ...please really don't want to loose her! Help
Ok thank you. Just think it's weird for it to suddenly happen at two months. I have her in a box with food and water. Just hope she gets better. Her legs are taped and tied and she still doesn't stand. But can get a little higher then before
she can not stand up, I have never vaccinated just give them medicated feed..but this is the first time I didn't the store was out of the medicated...Is that what it might be? Her legs look like the splayed leg chick I had last year. I tied her legs together and splinted them and she still can't...
I have a 2 month old thick that was fine..until a day or two ago..she has splayed legs. really this just happened! I'm thinking that the rooster tried to rape her and the pressure messed up he legs. Is this fixable? She is very sweet, but can not walk. I had this once with a newborn chick tied...
I'd keep them and see what happens...what can it hurt! I threw away 2 eggs yesterday because all the others had hatched and hen wasn't sitting on them anymore...big surprise when I heard peeping 7 hours later coming from the trash can! One of the 2 eggs had hatched in the trash can! Chick was...
I did a lot of incubating last year. I had a good survival rate. occasionally I would find one dead. I think it can happen even when hatched by a hen. This year I had a lot of hens go broody so didn't use the incubator. I had 3 hens hatch 4 chicks each and all lived! They are about 3 months old...
OK here is one for the books! First off my 2 year old Polish hen decided to go broody...that shocked me! She was on 11 eggs, this morning I go out and see a chick peeking out from under the hen! Go out a couple hours later and she is off the nest and all chicks are under her. I see some broken...
Well I read that they rarely go broody...so never worried about not collecting eggs daily! My flock of polish are 2 years old...so you can imagine my surprise when I went to collect eggs and one of the hens went broody and is on 11 eggs! So guess I'll be getting a bunch of polish chicks!
I have 2 hens with 2 week old chicks ( co parenting ) and another hen who's chicks just hatched...they are all in the same enclosure ....but separate nests. The new mom has not brought her chicks out yet, hatched yesterday. She does still have more eggs. Just wanted to know if all hens and...
does anyone know if you can mix hens and their chicks? I have hens co raising a clutch of 8 chicks. Now in the same enclosure another hens chicks just hatched. Can they all be together? Or will hens hurt the other hens new chicks? They do have their own nestsin the same enclosure.

Ok I found it...It's about 2/3rds down this page the name of the thread is"how old was the oldest eggs you ever hatched" It was started on 4/1/13 but someone commented on it today. And someone had babies hatch out of 4 week old eggs. a lot had a good hatch rate out of 2 week old eggs. Good luck...
