    Sexing Easter Eggers

Hi! So I finally have my own chooks, and I’m hoping to get some reassurance that my crossbeak EE is a pullet. I’m very attached to her, but I also cannot have roosters where I live, so I’m a little anxious. They are all around 10 weeks old, the EE is the only one Im kinda iffy on. Thanks in advance!

    Opinions on Chicken Water Setups

@aart yeah, that’s the link I was talking about, they just mention in the article that the system is based on vertical nipples, but not the brand. 🤷‍♀️ @thepick4uchicks, thank you! I was just lucky to catch them all sitting there when they were getting ready to go to sleep! I click my tongue...

    Opinions on Chicken Water Setups

That’s weird! It goes to the website when I click on it... I just got some of the Columbia aqua/ heritage farms horizontal nipples in the mail the other day. I finally got a small bottle setup with two nipples on it, so we’ll see how “training” goes! I put it in there tonight beside their other...

    Opinions on Chicken Water Setups

Aart, It’s actually from The Chicken Chick, but I realized the copper pins are just one component. It’s a pretty intensive setup. The how-to is toward the bottom of the page, I’d love to know your thoughts on the whole article though! https://the-chicken-chick.com/the-advantages-of-poultry-nipples/

Her beak doesn’t seem to be as bad as some of them out there, but I still worry about her lol. I saw on one blog that they replaced the steel pins inside the vertical nipple with copper ones so they wouldn’t freeze? I need to look into it more but it’s an idea. Yeah I found out about the limits...

    Opinions on Chicken Water Setups

Thanks for the tips So far! I think I’ll get some horizontal nipples soon. I like the idea of using a heater in the water and hooking it up to a thermostat outlet. That way it can’t overheat(like my container pond did in the spring a couple years ago!), and it’ll use less power. I have some old...

Also, @Dusty Chicken, there’s a tutorial out there on how to insulate a pvc watering system, it’s from the Chicken Chick blog, the article is on Surviving Winter With Chickens I believe. It looks like a great setup, but seems like a lot of work IMO. If nothing else works the way I want, I’ll...

    Opinions on Chicken Water Setups

Eddie, do any of yours have any problems getting enough water? I’ve seen so many reviews of so many different horizontal nipple brands that all say that their chickens were getting dehydrated because they either couldn’t get enough water out of the nipple or couldn’t figure out how to use it...

    Opinions on Chicken Water Setups

I have 4 pullets, and I’m currently using a vertical nipple waterer, but I’m wondering if I might need to change to a different system soon, especially for winter (Provo, Utah). One of my girls is a cross-beak, and seems to really like the vertical nipples, but my other girls seem like they get...

Diary of a Crossbeak: Support for Special Needs Chickens and their Keepers

So thankful for this thread! This year is not my first for raising chicks, but it’s my first time with a special needs chick. I’ve raised chicks for my in-laws and for my Mom, and finally got my own chicks! After bringing them home from the feed store, I noticed that my little Ameracauna has a...
