It is better for the Cornish x to have food withheld for 12hrs a day. Last year I had a couple of packing peanuts in with my meat birds and they did not seem to be bothered by the lack of food overnight.

For weighing my chickens I have a postal scale I bought cheap on ebay. I just set the chicken on the scale and it will stand there till i pick it back up.

According to Mcmurray Hatchery Cornish rocks are not recommended for raising at altitudes above 5000 feet. Hope you have good luck with the ones you have left.
