    Best layer/friendliest breed of chicken?

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll definitely get some buff orpingtons haha. And I hope I can find some lavanders. Also, my dad actually told me he used to keep a lot of bantams including cochins so he approves of those too. On the case of the hygeine for the cochin's, I would only get a few...

    Best layer/friendliest breed of chicken?

Now just to clarifiy, I've had chickens my whole life but I've never really been into them. While my dad had chickens I've had ducks and goats. I'm sort of terrified of Roosters but that's probably just because we had two horrible ones that would attack me. We always have Barred Rock's and...

    Rhode Island! ;D

Anyone from Rhode Island? I'm in Westerly. I've got 6 ducks, a potbelly pig, previously had goats and hope to again, and our chickens were cleaned out by a weasel so we plan to get some more of those too, hopefully Opringtons. And I'm always on the lookout for more ducks! (hopefully geese in...

    Buff, Pilgrim, or Sebastopol?

The buff's colors do really appeal to me haha. I might just have to get Pilgrims and Buffs! Also, I just wanted to say that the ducks on the far right in your photo (the black and white ones) are gorgeous! What kind are they?

    Duck Experts -please help identify.

From left to left it looks like a male either mallard or Rouen, then definitely a Pekin but unsure of the gender, Then that looks like a crested Rouen maybe mixed with swedish? I'm no expert so don't swear by my guesses. lol

    Taking the splash!

Quote: Mhmm..they're great. Are runners really that quiet? I have a runner drake, and he is CONSTANTLY talking. He isn't very loud, but then again... he's a boy. I can only imagine how loud and irritating he would be if he were a hen! My hen is quite runt-ish so maybe that contributes to...

    Whistling?

Haha, when mine started really feathering out there was little peices of down stuck to each of them in the wierdest places. Good luck cleaning them I would never be able to do that with my crested Pekin; he's the loudest of my whole bunch and a squirmer to boot.

    Taking the splash!

I highly recomend Indian Runners! My pair are the quitest out of all of my ducks and tolerate being held the best. Not to mention they're extremely elegant lookings, good foragers, and fun to watch!

    Whistling?

Hmmm, I haven't had this problem. Wish I could help more but all I can contribute is that maybe there's just something stuck up inside there and his nose needs to be cleaned out?

    Buff, Pilgrim, or Sebastopol?

Well pilgrim seems to be quite popular, haha. I'm leaning towards Pilgrim now since everyone has nothing but good things to say about them and the sebastopols are so darn expensive haha.

    Buff, Pilgrim, or Sebastopol?

(I'm not getting geese right now, I'll probably wait until next spring unless I become impulsive but I want 1 or 2) I contemplated the breeds of geese that I prefer and narrowed it down to The buff, pilgrim, or sebastopol. I really want a goose that will become attached to me, cuddle, and follow...

Oh the little crested pekins are just too cute! What an adorable little bunch! And a pleasant surprise haha. I can't wait until my ducks start to lay so I can have little peepers running around.
