I had one that had seizures. Basically just like what you were describing. He was the one egg that hatched after an incubator malfunction. Three days before they were due to hatch, the temp got up to 120 degrees for about 45 minutes. So I blamed his condition on that. He only lived to be...
Got a couple of regular colored bobwhites (hatched in September, just a couple days old when I got them) and also hatched out a white bobwhite in my incubator last October. I know the males are supposed to have a white mask. Do they keep the mask all year, or does their coloring change in the...
The guy I got my quail uses them for his birds and says it works great. But I think he said the quail needed a different size nipple than chickens. He got his from quailsupply.com, and I'll be ordering some for my birds this week.
I have a red tuxedo hen, 2 red gold hens (I think they're both hens; one may be a rooster, I can't tell yet. They're still pretty young, and I'm new at this.), and a fawn hen. What would the offspring be, if I put a Manchurian roo in with them? The roo I'm thinking of is very reddish and has...
I am having a really hard time getting quail/gamebird food here in my small town. We have one small feed store, and they keep giving me the run-around about ordering some. They are putting in a Tractor Supply store, scheduled to open November 20 and I'm fully expecting the feed store to go out...
Thanks! I ended up with 57 out of 65 eggs hatching so I'm pretty happy, although I lost 2 shortly after they hatched. Got a nice assortment of colors, too. The whole thing took just over 36 hours from first pip (7:00 am Day 17) to the last hatch (9:00 pm Day 18).
Oh, one more question for ya, I have a baby that looks just like the manchurian babies (yellow with 3 black stripes running down the back) but his stripes are sort of rusty brown instead of black. Any ideas what that will turn out to be? I'll see if I can get a picture. TIA
Not the best...
Thanks Quail Lady, that helps a lot! It was that Red Golden that was confusing me. Thought it might've been fawn before the adult feathers came in, but when they did, the pattern was like Range rather than the wild type. The red golden and red tux are my favorites. Just hatched out 48 more...
It IS very cool to watch. I got about 2 hours sleep last night because I couldn't tear myself away, LOL. We're up to 46 out of 65 eggs so far and they're not done yet. 27 hours after I noticed the first pip.
Thanks. These are my first Coturnix (I also have 46 babies and counting, that just hatched yesterday/this morning) and I am in LOVE. These things are better than chickens, lol! The ones in the pictures are about 3 weeks old.
