Congratulations!! Our girls layed their first eggs this past weeked - it was soooo exciting! We have 6 hens of different breeds (barnyard mix). 3 of them started laying on the same day. It's so much fun to check the nest boxes each day. The girl in this photo didn't lay any of these eggs...
I do believe that my chipmunk chick is a Welsummer! Now that she's 12 weeks, her beautiful feathers have come in...I read that Welsummers do have Dutch origins, so it all seems to fit. Can't wait to see what color her eggs are!
they loved the roosting stick as soon as I put it in the brooder...took a bit to figure out the balancing part, but now they sleep up there all the time!
Thank you for this very helpful info...our chicks are 6 wks old and haven't started living in their coop yet. I've already been worrying about how they'll survive the Maine winters, but sounds like they should be just fine if we make a few winterizations!
Thanks for the replies...I believe she is large fowl and her legs are kind of a pinkish orange color. Here's another photo that shows moer of her back - can't really see her legs though. Maybe I can take a better one tonight. No matter what breed, I just think she's so pretty!
Bought my first chicks this weekend and one is colored like a little chipmunk - she came from a "Barnyard Mix", but the guy selling her said she could be Dutch? Wondering if she might be an Easter Egger? Doesn't really matter, but if anyone has ideas I'd love to hear them!
