    roo or pullet?

I got 6 ameraucana (Im thinking they are actually easter eggers vs. true ameraucana) babies that are now 6 weeks old. There is one that I am thinking is a roo, but Im not positive. What do you think? The comb on this baby is redder than the others, theirs are more yellow, not to mention the size...

Pipped wrong end, when do I help.

We have a chick! It hatched just about an hour ago. I was going to post a picture but it is still in the incubator.

Pipped wrong end, when do I help.

I hope so, then I wont have to worry about it as much. It pipped last night, so keeping fingers crossed! I keep going in and peeking in on it, there are 4 hatched babies in the incubator now with it so maybe they can talk him/her out!

Pipped wrong end, when do I help.

Thank you! My biggest concern was the browning of the exposed membrane. I have done lots of reading as I am still pretty new to hatching. I can see it breathing and moving its beak, so I know for now its okay. I did chip away a little bit of the shell and noticed blood vessels so I left it...

Pipped wrong end, when do I help.

I have a chick that pipped last night at the skinny end of the egg, I noticed this morning the membrane around it is starting to turn brown. How long to I wait to go in and help this baby? I can see its beak moving and it is still breathing. Thanks in advance!

    Need chick help!

Thank you! I will enjoy them! The first time I hatched my hens' eggs. This time around I put in some from my hens, got some from auction and got some from a friend. I have no idea really what I am getting!

    Need chick help!

The swelling has gone down and looks normal now. It just worried me because none of the other chicks had this. The top of the chick was dry, that why I took it out. It felt funny in my hand (because of the swelling) and when I turned it over, thats what I saw. Its bottom was still damp so I did...

    Need chick help!

This is only my second hatch and so far so good. I had a chick hatch today with something wrong with its navel. I have not had to deal with this yet and need to know what to do. Thanks in advance!

    Chick Breed Chart?

Okay, I know there is a breed chart that I refer to a lot when looking for info on chicken breeds. What I want to know, is there a breed chart with chicks? I have some mystery eggs hatching and would like to see if I can try to tell what they might be. One that just hatched is black with white...

At what point should I consider an assisted hatch?

If I could delete this thread, I would. The chick just popped out of the egg!

At what point should I consider an assisted hatch?

I just peeked in at the egg again, and there has been more progress made. I also noticed a little part of the membrane that has been exposed since yesterday has turned brown, not all, just a little part. The rest of the membrane, including the newly exposed membrane still looks good.

At what point should I consider an assisted hatch?

I am still fairly new to incubating and hatching, this is my 2nd round. The first one went well with 10 out of 13 eggs hatching. My eggs are due to hatch Friday, 4-4-14. I woke up yesterday and noticed one had pipped. After watching it throughout the day, it made little progress. It has pipped...

    Chickens stopped eating their feed...

Thanks for response! The egg number varies and has all winter long, it has slowly picked up. They don't seem to be any hungrier than usual, they all go wild like they are starving when they get the scratch, but so do my silkies who have no problem eating the pellets. I don't see them eating the...
