Thank you for the bathing suggestion. He has access to a stock tank with clean water for bathing, but I can't guarantee he's actually been using it lately. We will make a point to observe that. Most of the other potential causes have been ruled out. Can you say some more about the clogged...
Hello everyone,
Pictured below is one of our museum's Cotton Patch ganders.
I am trying to figure out what is causing the damage to the feathers on his wings. None of our poultry have ever had external parasites. I have examined him twice in the past couple of weeks and he is in good feather...
Here in Florida, we have an increasing number of invasive cane toads, also known as marine toads. Most escaped from the pet trade and like everything else in the world seem to thrive and breed in the warm climate. Some areas are quite overrun with them, and they are so toxic they will kill a...
First of all, you need a fence. If you cannot have a fence, you at least need a solid, predator-proof coop and run in which to house your chickens at night.
Dogs as guards of poultry are a crapshoot. Some will be great, others will kill the flock, but as a previous poster said, NO dog really...
We have regular old dirt in the outdoor runs (we are in FL so it's sand anyway). The poop tray in the coop is filled with PDZ, the best stuff ever invented. The rest of the coop floor has shavings, but the girls never poop there as they are outside all day.
I did, and I've been in contact with out-of-state breeders, but most have waiting lists through 2018 for eggs or goslings. I would settle for an older Cotton Patch, male or female, as a companion animal if it's available now.
Anybody in Florida have Cotton Patch geese? My female passed away this spring and we are trying to locate a companion for one lonely male. I have located some out of state breeders who have waiting lists for hatchlings through 2018 and beyond! I don't necessarily need a gosling....would be...
We have one lonely Cotton Patch gander at our living history museum. His mate died this spring, and we have been unable to locate another female Cotton Patch (long waiting lists at all the breeders we know). We have been offered a young, probably male, American Buff as a companion animal.
Our...
I am looking for a cotton patch goose, preferably young adult, for my lonely gander who just lost his girlfriend. Anyone know of a breeder in Florida, Georgia or Alabama?
Hello,
My chickens have been prescribed Tylan soluble in water for 5 days. The vet seemed non-committal about egg withdrawal. This web forum seems to have lots of conflicting information about the appropriate withdrawal time. I looked it up and the FDA says that in the US it should not be...
We love the Brite Tap waterers, too, although one of ours continually drips ever-so-slightly....but that's a small price to pay to keep the water clean.
Still looking for anyone who may have used a treadle feeder with geese? The makers of the Grandpa's Feeders say they can be use with...
Hi Fellow Florida Chicks:
We are from Cracker Country, the rural Florida living history museum on the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa. We keep a small flock of Barred Plymouth Rocks and Cotton Patch geese, who help us educate our guests and school children about farm animals in rural...
