I just spent more than I intended on a big batch of birds at auction. The first thing I noticed after getting them home was that one bird had gray eyes. Is she doomed? What about the other birds in her cage and the other birds at auction in the other cages/boxes? Her cage had all open air sides...
Just an update, after giving them baby vitamins for a few days, the barred is standing and clumbsily walking, which is better than when we originally found her. The Easter Egger looks more alert and active, though still won't stand. I guess it was just a vitamin deficiency, which is a huge...
Just a quick update: I'm headed to the store tomorrow to get some poultry cell, but until I can do that I have been giving vitamin e and some extra protein. I'm still giving activated charcoal and molasses. My barred can now stand in her crate with minimal assistance and seems to be doing much...
Thank you everyone. I appreciate the input. They are on a concrete slab currently, it used to be used for dogs very briefly years ago, so I don't think they have much access to anything from our vehicles. When I prop them up in a laundry basket with a blanket, there is no wobbling or anything...
My pullet started having coordination issues yesterday. Today she's the same and an Easter Egger pullet is also losing balance. They don't seem paralyzed or dizzy, just can't stand. We did find some mold under the bedding and have cleaned it. The barred seems to be losing feathers, like she's...
She passed a few minutes after I posted this :( Still, any help in case I see this in the future or in case it's contagious and may have infected my other birds would be greatly appreciated.
We received a beautiful older bird a month or so back and was told that she always gurgled and it was normal for her. A week or so ago, we noticed that she was very tired and droopy, so we took her and was making sure that she was eating and drinking well. Her gurgling became worse. I started...
I'm positive. I stayed as still as possible and stared intently for some time. It was a sudden movement of only one part of the shadow inside. Sometimes I also see a pulsing type movement. It's definitely alive. I'm worried that it's plastered to the side of the shell. I'll get a better picture...
This is my first time incubating. My chicks are all hatching out, but one egg seems like it has a very underdeveloped embryo inside. I keep thinking it has passed away, but just as I think it has, I see it move. What do I do? It looks days behind all the rest and seems to have stopped growing...
So, not as many made it through as we'd hoped, probably because it's a cheap incubator. But we've hatched 3 so far and expect at least another 4. They are adorable white chicks with black spots. I'm assuming that the jersey giant is the father and not the easter egger I saw with her. I secretly...
I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I checked the dates and this is definitely day 4. I placed it in a paper towel roll and it worked to get the embryo right next to the air pocket. It's hard to see, but there's definitely veins starting to show. I'm so nervous!
I think it's on about day 3, laying down. We don't have an egg turner, but I'll do my best to find a way to prop it, maybe a piece of paper towel roll or something on end. Thanks!
