Nothing noticeable in their coop or popular spots along the run. Neither has lain a egg yet…figure they are getting close to being “overdue”, but we’re also in Ohio and the temps dropped pretty low last week. I’m not trying to push extra heat/sunlight to encourage egg production over the winter...
Hello wonderful chicken experts!
I’m wondering if someone might be able to either reassure me everything is fine, or tell me I’m a horrible chicken mom for letting this go on for so long…
We have two ~6 month old pullets who have this same pea comb. As you can see from the photos, it’s very dry...
Thankfully, we found a home for him today!! We’ll be dropping him off on Friday to join a flock of 46 hens and a couple of other roosters on 20 acres. Hopefully he figures out pecking order fast and lives a wonderful life being a gorgeous roo. He’ll be missed, but thank you for any and all of...
Unfortunately, our Olive Egger cockerel is being too aggressive toward the ladies. We have a very small flock (5), and I just don’t have the capacity to keep him out and maintain separate living quarters to ease the pullets.
He isn’t overly aggressive toward me, and enjoys treats, but he has...
Oh thank goodness! We had two roos in our last chick flock and had to rehome one of them. Would hate to have to go through that again!
Good to know about tails. I wasn’t putting a lot of weight on that, but it concerned me and made me think twice.
Thanks again!
Back again with a couple of 8 week old olive eggers. The darker one I feel fairly confident is a pullet, but the white one has me second-guessing. The pea comb appears to be single row without any darkening red coloration nor larger size. Feathers appear more rounded than pointy….but the tail...
Rats! We absolutely love these guys, so going to hold out as long as we can! I know I’d be asking for an outright miracle, but boy would it be nice if they just didn’t crow :p:lau
So…we’ve had 4 chicks since they were about 3 weeks old. They’re now 12 weeks and while we’re sure of the one very obvious cockerel, I’m on the fence with one other. I’ve included pics of the obvious one and the one in question…
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!
Here’s the two halfway into...
Love the article! Thank you for sharing.
I’ll try to get some better photos soon. It’s hard with the shed right there and the front of the coop is contained inside of the run, but I can probably figure something out! I’m really appreciative of all the feedback.
Of course…I was just under the impression that the hardware cloth was more for larger predators such as coyotes. Not sure what the heck chicken wire really amounts to 🙄😅
Additionally, we have a dog so that helps keep most critters away. However, some of the smaller pesty ones could certainly...
Thank you for the feedback/advice. Regarding your statement about proper ventilation during the winter, do you have any recommendations? Are you talking height inside of the coop, or just that it is elevated off the ground?
Thanks again!
Hello everyone! Just looking for general feedback on a coop I built for our 4 Olive Eggers. First-time chicken mom, and we started the coop build on extremely limited time and money, so a lot of “this is what we have available”.
Recent weather has allowed for true waterproof testing, and I’m...
Unfortunate. We absolutely love all of their personalities, but we did know going into this that there was a possibility. Not sure we could even keep him to an age worth eating, so we’ll be looking to rehome.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
