Hello wonderful chicken experts!

I’m wondering if someone might be able to either reassure me everything is fine, or tell me I’m a horrible chicken mom for letting this go on for so long…
We have two ~6 month old pullets who have this same pea comb. As you can see from the photos, it’s very dry looking and pale. It’s always been this way, at least once they started maturing (we got them at 3 weeks old). Is this normal for any type of chicken, or are we overlooking something serious?

Thank you so much in advance for any insight!

Is there anything dusty or white in your bedding, or where they are hanging out? The faces and wattles are red, while it looks like they have had their heads in powder. Favus, a fungal infection can cause a chaulky white substance on combs and skin. What is your location? Have either one started laying eggs?

Nothing noticeable in their coop or popular spots along the run. Neither has lain a egg yet…figure they are getting close to being “overdue”, but we’re also in Ohio and the temps dropped pretty low last week. I’m not trying to push extra heat/sunlight to encourage egg production over the winter, so wasn’t sure how much they would really lay this year.

What I have noticed is what appears to be very light dander on their backs. And I mean very light…as in maybe a few little specks every once in while.

Did you ever figure out what was going on with your girls? Mine have just developed similar symptoms and there’s nothing dusty in their coop or run - they all seem healthy (active, shiny feathers, eating and pooping normally) but I also have 3/4 girls not laying yet at 7, going on 8 months old!

One EE girl has been laying regularly since just under 6 months old. My Marans x girl looks like she’s ready to lay any day now but hasn’t yet, my other EE girl (who is supposed to be an OE) doesn’t look ready to lay yet, and I know they take longer, and my minorca seems to have decided she’s a rooster - also no eggs from her, but possibly because she’s decided that strutting around trying to crow is more her thing 😂

Have your girls started laying? I’m wondering if there’s a connection. I haven’t noticed mites or lice in the coop or on the girls, but we have had way more rain than usual so I’m worried they maybe haven’t been dust bathing as much as usual?
