    Eggs changing color??

My Black Sex links' eggs have lightened in color as they age. They are now two.

At what age do EE's typically lay?

I started out with 4 straight run EE chicks. My luck, I only had one pullet. This year's pullets are two golden comets, one EE, and one game hen. One comet laid at 18 weeks. My EE just started at 19 weeks. I had hoped for blue or green eggs. Again my luck, she lays light brown eggs. I...

    Pullets v. Roos.......

I find it kind of funny how things work out sometimes. Most of us here would prefer to hatch mostly pullets and seem to get too many roosters. I remember as a kid, my dad and older brother raised Thai and Malay fowls. The roosters were always the prize and they wanted mostly roosters...

How much does your chicks cost at the feed store or TSC

My TSC is trying to get rid of what they have left. They make you buy at least 6 of them but it is 50% off. So for straight runs, it is only 95 cents. I got 4 EE, 1 turken, and one brown leghorn.

How can i get my chickens to love and trust me im really a good person

I had some sex-link pullets that were so jumpy when I first got them at 3-4 weeks old. I just thought they would always be that way. And they were for the most part. Then when they were almost ready to start laying around 18-19 wks, somehow moods all changed. They all started the squatting...

    Extreme blood spot?

Mine are not that extreme. I was going to ask the same thing about mine. Only, mine has just one tiny speck usually but it is a gray/brown color. What could it be? I just remove it. However, I just think it's odd that I used 5 eggs the other day and they each had a tiny speck like that. It...

HEN LAYING - One of my hens is NOT laying, all same age,...

I have four sex-links that are from the same batch. They just turned 19 weeks. One just laid her first egg today. I am so happy. There is one that looks like she will lay any day now. And there are two who look like they still have a week or two before they are ready. They are just like...

Average age for Wyandottes to start laying?

That's a bit unheard of...Wow. At nine weeks they are only two months old. Mine at nine weeks still looked like babies. My GLW started laying at 20/21 weeks and I thought I was doing good for that breed.

    Chickens won't lay eggs

I also heard that they will stop laying if they eat fruit. That could be it too.

Tougher membrane in eggs than store bought

Does anyone else notice that the membrane inside of the eggs are tougher than store bought eggs? They are definitely harder for me to crack compared to store bought. I love my fresh eggs as they taste so much better. Maybe the tougher membrane keeps all the flavor in : )

    I need to whine

I was surprised by my two hens. The GLW started laying first. She does an egg every other day. My D'uccle bantam, is a week younger. I really didn't expect much from her. She started laying a week after my GLW. Funny thing is, the d'uccle has been laying an egg every day...beating the GLW...

    Another no egg post

Yes they are very sensitive to change. My GLW just started laying. She was laying about an egg every other day. Then I put her in another cage just for a few hours to clean her cage. She skipped 4 days with no eggs after that. Finally she is back to normal. Last two days, she has laid an...

    SLW GENDER PICS

It is definitely tricky to guess with Wyandottes. I had 4 GLW and all were supposed to be pullets. But around 5-6 weeks their combs started getting red. I was so worried they were all roos. as they aged, I noticed one for sure was a roo. His comb was much wider and more bumpy. The other...

    consistency of new layers

My GLW is the only one laying right now. She just started laying last week. So far it looks like she is laying an egg every other day. Hopefully she will get closer to 5 eggs/week. But if not, an egg every other day is fine too as I have some sex links coming to age soon.
