One of the Wyandotte ladies has been laying light brown eggs with an unusual "warp" at the pointy end of the egg since she started laying at the beginning of the summer. The last 2 days she has layed her usual warped egg, same Bat Time, same Bat Nesting Box but both days the eggs have been almost white. Weird....is this indicative of something being wrong? The ladies are on 16% TSC layer feed with free choice of oyster & grit, various appropriate table scraps, and plain fresh water (no meds, electrolytes, etc).

Anyone ever have this happen??

Sometimes things like that happen. Don't worry too much. Sometimes things a lot stranger that odd-colored eggs come out of a hen. Such as the "alien" eggs you hear about occasionally!

My GLW eggs have gotten lighter as she ages. She's a little over 3 yo, and her eggs are almost white now. Used to be light brown.

Imp- Thinner shells too

My SLW have always layed an egg that resembles an off white or light light light brown color. almost pink tinged. And yes the eggs are "alien" head shaped, sometimes with weird bumps or places where it looks like the eggs have been squeezed out. (no prolapses, thank goodness.)

As for the shell of the egg, it's almost gritty and coarse in texture, like sand-papery. and the shells are brittle.

they also get fed a laying pellet, with free choice oyster shell and grit. and they're fat! so i don't think that they aren't getting enough.

IMHO- Wyandottes just don't lay good eggs.

Good to know nothing is "wrong." We have 4 GLW and they are laying machines...never missed a day since they started laying.

One of them does the sandpaper shell thing and ALL of them have wicked thick shells...then again, all our girls have crazy thick shells. We used to chuckle at how hard we had to hit them to open 'em up. Now it seems normal....interesting how the rest of the world thinks what comes in the supermarket is normal!! LOL

My Black Sex links' eggs have lightened in color as they age. They are now two.

Do you have any pictures? I had a bird that started laying lighter colored eggs with one end darker and the shells were thin. I put vitamins with electrolytes in their water. The eggs are now back to normal. I had been feeding them their Layer pellets and also a dish each of free choice oyster shells and grit, plus they get stuff from the gardens.
