My little ladies started eating there eggs this morning.

Great advice everyone. I will take heed from all of you. The are getting oyster shells which I have mixed in with their 16% crumble. I am going to increase the bedding in the box. I think I will also add 1 or 2 fake eggs to see if that will coax them away from intentionally breaking their eggs...

My little ladies started eating there eggs this morning.

When I went out to gather eggs this morning I noticed that two of them had been broken and partially eaten it appears to be. Being a rookie I'm curious to know what I can do to stop this behavior. I had recently move their coop. It was a tractor style coop and I moved it to a more permanent...

    Young Hens and first Molt

Thanks Happy Chooks Your answe to question #1 causes another question. I know continuing with the lights won't cause a molt, if I turn the light off suddenly will it throw them into a premature molt?

My 3 Black Star hens are now 25 weeks old. They started laying about 4 weeks ago. At first two of them would lay and the other the following day. For the past week they are all consistently laying one egg a day!

I can't get near my hens, and I want to make them more like pets.

Sigwaldo here again, The 3 hens I have were not handle as babies but raised with a bunch of other chickens. If I handle them do you think they will calm down and let me approach them and pet them? Thanks All!

Rookie newbie question. My three ladies are about 25 weeks old. The are laying once a day. They get 14 to 16 hours of daylight each day. If I stop the lights will they go into a molt? Or are they to young to molt so soon?
