    Chickens and Ducks Together???...

I have kept chickens with ducks for several years. The only time I separate my ducks and chickens are when they are little. I have found that ducklings grow much quicker than chicks; and the ducklings think that chicks make nice cushions . I keep them in the same pin but separated with a "wall"...

It's definitly all about the girl(s). I hope they start showing some interest in the new girls soon. They all got along splendidly until they hit "puberty".

    Female to Male Ratio/Fighting Males/Lots of ?"s

Well, after I added the two female Muscovy's I now have 3 Drakes and 3 Ducks. I can add more females. We have a Mucovey Breeder that lives within 2 miles of our home. I have plenty of space I can add more Ducks. I could add 4 more easily. Rehoming is NOT an option; I learned my lesson the hard...

    Female to Male Ratio/Fighting Males/Lots of ?"s

I started out with one male (pekin) and one female (?) and all was peaceful, I acquired to ducklings in the spring. I prayed they were girls, but they are very much males (2 bully Roeuns). The two rescued boys have reached maturity in that last week and the fighting has been the most vicous I...

    Raccoon-Proof Window Screens--Pics

This is awesome! I just sent pictures to my husband at work and told him to stop by the hardware store on the way home, this is his evening project. I lost 1/2 of my flock in the past two weeks (to what I thought was a fox or stray dogs) only to have caught 4 very nasty racoons in our live...

Can duckling freerange with the chickens and will it know where to...

How old are the ducks? I have always kept ducklings and chicks together; they free range all day and come back to the barn at night for bedtime (most of the times). Chickens always come back, but on a rare occasion the ducks will hunker down and spend the night out. If you have water on your...

for a pet is it better to get one or two duckling?

I agree a male can wear a female out. We have one male for three females. My male and femal pekins are extremely loud, but we live in the country so we don't care. We have two female Ruens who are very quite and very friendly. I have learned from years of experience two males never live...

for a pet is it better to get one or two duckling?

A solitary Pekin male or female is not going to be happy. They really do enjoy having another duck around. The key for us is to just handle them daily and always have treats ready to share and they will stay friendly and love you. Once you find thier favorite treat; they will expect it every...

for a pet is it better to get one or two duckling?

I have raised ducks for 10 years and they prefer the company of another duck, preferably 2 females if you don't want babies. Two males will fight terribly. I currently have three hens and one male. The more you handle them when they are little the friendlier they will be. Hope this helps.

    Hello from Indiana!!

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Not new to chickens. I got my first chickens in 2005. My husband and in-laws thought we should get them to raise to eat...lol; they all ended up my pets. (2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have 45 chickens right now...

    Waterlogged chic!?!??!

Thanx so much for the responses. I have her in a little chicky ER tonight, she's warm and drying off really well. Hubby thinks she is wobbly because she was struggling in the water for so long she is just exhausted. I have her on a warm towel, some fresh water, some applesauce and some regular...

    Waterlogged chic!?!??!

I came home from work to find one of my little chicks (6-8 week EEG) chicks floating in the duck pool. We thought she was dead, but then when I went to scoop her up she blinked. I wrapped her in my shirt and ran inside to start drying her off. I have her pretty dry, but she is very lathargic and...
