I just recently got an email with pictures from the lady who cares for him now, and he is still healthy and happy, but has never gained the ability to balance on his own.
It's just a missing part of his brain in his case.
If you don't see improvement, yours may have the same disability, but...
Here's a youtube video I made, you can see the straps, this was one of the prototypes, (thus all the safety pins lol) but this turned into the best design for him, minus the straps on his body. Depending on the size of your lil one, you might not need them. A week later and my Huey was big...
I wish I had taken pictures, and I no long have his materials, but the basic bottom layer was a triangle, with the widest part at his chest level to support his chest, and the narrrowest part went between his legs. I would then take a strap and run it across the top of the walker so he wouldnt...
I can't speak for what's "normal", but mine are just shy of 8 weeks and are almost fully feathered. A Lil bit of down left around the neck, but body and wings are just about complete. When I got these I was told 2-3 months and they would reach full growth.
Hope it helps!
Hi y'all, I've got another question regarding my lil pekins. They are all 7 weeks old this week and seem to be doing quite well. The 2 normal ones (Dewey and Louise) are almost feathered and almost fully white already. My concern is that Dewey's wings don't look like Louise's. I've been...
Yup. It's in my earlier write up in this thread. He and the others since they share water have been getting niacin since I brought them home. About 125 mg per gallon of water, and a Lil dash extra in his when he was being hand fed and watered. Now he's self sufficient in his new box, with...
And finally, after our swim trips, our kale fishing, its hard core nap time. He's mostly sleeping on his belly now, but if he doesn't have anything to brace against he can't stay up, although if I set him up on his belly he can balance without help until he starts hopping around. I was cleaning...
And one more, you can see Dewey dive, then Huey falls and rights himself and keeps on going!
(I think I now understand almost why parents post a million videos of their kids doing normal things...lol)
Awesome write up Erin, thank you!!! I am glad you shared, it is so hard to find anything on this issue to help other than "put them down, not worth the effort". You aren't kidding, I don't have children, but these guys are ALOT of work. Worth it tho. Currently I work from home so I am able to...
Aww, thank you, that's very nice of you to say. I keep waiting for friends and family to give me the "what have you done now" but surprisingly, everyone thinks it's awesome. My dad wants daily updates and my father in law was even trying to help me fabricate the walker for him. The hardest...
Hi all, just wanted to do a quick update. Thanks again for everyone's help! Huey is about the same, no worse thankfully. We've tried the hobble for several days and at first it appeared to be working, but then he figured out how to bypass it and still stand on his feet own feet, but after...
Thanks! We haven't tried walking or standing yet, I tricked him into sleeping before we put it on, so he fought for a minute, then passed back out. He's randomly waking up and kicking a lil, but he's already done some preening without my help since his legs can't kick out from under him. I'm...
Okay folks, first duck hobble, a reverse hobble I assume this is. Does it look right?
It is holding his legs apart and after the first cranky struggles, he's now passed out in my lap, mostly upright for the first time without me holding him up.
The water therapy was a disaster. He...
You guys are AWESOME!!!
I will try the hobble, I have not tried that yet as his feet aren't splayed, but I just had another feeding with him and while I hate to get too optimistic, he seems slightly improved even since this morning. We are practicing standing on our own, while I just slightly...
I think your Hazel has a slightly different issue than my Huey, as she seems able to float in the water on her own. Huey gets very spastic and starts flopping and flailing around. His legs are strong, he just doesn't seem to be able to use them correctly. I was checking this morning and he...
