Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm already falling in love with them a little, because they're so silly looking. I'm not sure I'll change his mind, but if I happen to adopt ONE into our flock, I don't think he would deny me.
Thank you deserteggs, I will let you know when we make it there. I know, 2 years seems forever, but I need those two years to make it, $-wise. :) It's fun planning a coop and run for them, and looking at houses.
I can see how NN can be cute, but when I brought it up to hubby, he replied with...
We like Easter Eggers! Haven't heard of Olive Eggers, but a couple of EE's we have now lay an olive looking green. :) Thanks! We just lost a Rhode Island Red that was a great layer, how do they do here?
Well, we're still two years or so away from moving to Tucson, but it's always on my mind!
We hope to have a small flock of 6-8 girls for eggs, and wondering what breeds do well in the heat and climate, and are good layers. We really love Ameraucanas. Anyway, when we get there, we hope to...
Oh my gosh, those are beautiful! I only lurk here since I'm in AZ in my heart but still in CA. If I were there, I'd ask for those eggs to hatch in a heartbeat!
So sorry LKD.
Yes, I think Copper Wings looks male too.
I just found the zoning ords for Chino Valley on here, and it says limit is 4. I guess it depends on neighbors being okay with more :)
Thank you Countrygirl, I will definitely look into Chino Valley!
Edit: oh, it looks like we can only have up to 4 chickens in Chino Valley. :( Other than that, it looked lovely!!
Thanks for sharing! One misconception I had with partnering with a Marine is that he'd make the bed in the morning. WRONG. After having to do it in the service to perfection, he never wants to make another bed in his life
Lol, I won't ask! His Marine days were way before we got together (Desert Storm) but once a Marine, always a Marine. And he does LOVE our chickens! Spoils them rotten. Even on my current little suburban lot, our 6 girls have 2 coops and run of the yard! I'm a little afraid what he'll do with...
Thanks for all the comments about West vs. East in Tucson!
Besides wanting space and chickens, I like the idea of being able to do our own thing. We both ride road bikes, so I'd like to be able to ride out of my place on pavement, without being chased by dogs, and be able to ride not more than...
Hmmm, sounds like Oro Valley isn't the area I'm interested in! I was looking in the NE, or NW areas too. We want at least 1/2 acre, and want our chickens, no HOA. :)
It's still 5 years down the road. We'll be visiting next summer to check things out. Any opinions as far as West vs. East...
Hi everyone,
I plan to retire in and around Tucson, AZ. And one thing we have to be able to have is our chickens! I have zoning info for Tucson, but can't seem to be able to find the regulations for having chickens in residential areas of Oro Valley. (R136) I thought I'd ask here. Thanks in...
Thanks Photto. Next time we drive to NM to visit his family, we'll spend a day there, and get a personal sense of the place.
We don't gamble. My bf worked at Mohegan Sun (sp?) for about 10 years on the East Coast before here, and knows the odds. I'd like to stay here, I just don't know if I...
We've only driven through Kingman, and one reason is that it's exactly 1/2 way between his family in NM and mine in CA. Also, the cost of living is lower than where we are in now, and the weather. He says no snow, I say no 110+ for weeks on end!
We really are a 'putter around the house' kind...
