Fabulous! Many practical ideas. I don't think it looks disproportionate at all -- rather like an adorable little school house or church on the prairie. I appreciate your photo documentation as well. You and your husband did an amazing job. Lucky chickens.

Murray McMurray Rainbow and Ornamental Layers?

It's been about five years ago since I last purchased chicks through the mail, but I ordered two groups of the rainbow layers, after having previously ordered my own custom mix and match batch. With respect to the Rainbow Layers, I was very pleased! I recall a good variety of excellent laying...

    Mini-Pearl Mystery Chick....can anyone help?

This was very helpful. After doing some research, I learned about the genetics of the "blue" diluting gene and saw pictures of what the different colored babies can look like. I decided to go "back to the bin" and get a sister for her. The one I ended up with was slightly grayer than...

    Mini-Pearl Mystery Chick....can anyone help?

Oh, wow. I had never heard of them, but I searched for Blue Orpington Chicks on the internet, and you are right! She looks just like some of them...others are a little darker gray. It's odd that she was the only one of her kind, as they had numerous other hatch mates in the brooder of mixed...

She was in with large breed pullet chicks. She was the same size as the others.

    Mini-Pearl Mystery Chick....can anyone help?

This is our newest baby. I found her in a brooder mixed pullets at the feed store. She is all white with some dove gray on her head. Not a bit of yellow! I have NEVER seen a baby with absolutely no yellow whatsoever. Any ideas? We named her Mini-Pearl.

    State a fact about yourself!

That's great! I wish her a speedy recovery. Poor darling.

Absolutely! For being a city guy, he is excited about planning/building a coop for us. Being a life-long Texan, he was just excited to get the heck out of Texas. Funny, my dad was a Texas as well who felt the same way.

@ allhisblessings: how did the chicks like playing outside? I can't remember what 83 degrees feels like.

@ Wildpeas. I miss Washington (my home state)! Alder trees! What a great idea about the egg carton. Isn't it adorable to watch them practice their little instinctive chicken behaviors like scratching and bathing? So precious.

I am so excited! I found out the library can get the textbook I mentioned above The Development of Brain and Behavior in the Chicken through one of the universities in a neighboring state. I was pretty happy about this because the book is about $125. I should be getting it next week, so if I...

Thank you! Can't take personal credit for the names (except Primrose whom I named based on her color). The kids and husband named them. Funny how chickens, like humans, grow into their names. Even at a little over a week old, the little cuties are showing their personalities. Francesca is...

    Starting over in Wyoming

Hello all. My name is Sarah. By day, I'm a forensic psychologist. The rest of the time, I'm mama to five kiddos and three step-kiddos, five of whom are grown (two and a half have flown the coop), a nine-year old Shar-pei Lab mix named Honey and new babies that I'll describe shortly. We...
