This is our newest baby. I found her in a brooder mixed pullets at the feed store. She is all white with some dove gray on her head. Not a bit of yellow! I have NEVER seen a baby with absolutely no yellow whatsoever. Any ideas? We named her Mini-Pearl.

Oh, wow. I had never heard of them, but I searched for Blue Orpington Chicks on the internet, and you are right! She looks just like some of them...others are a little darker gray. It's odd that she was the only one of her kind, as they had numerous other hatch mates in the brooder of mixed pullet chicks. They had just arrived right before we got there, too. Thank you so much.

welcome! thats why you are a lucky ducky Blue orps are kind of hard to get so to find it in a feed store. (Even if its not a orp its still blue or splash) Oh and the darker grey ones you said you seen are prob black ones. When they breed for blues they get mix of blues, splash and black.

This was very helpful. After doing some research, I learned about the genetics of the "blue" diluting gene and saw pictures of what the different colored babies can look like. I decided to go "back to the bin" and get a sister for her. The one I ended up with was slightly grayer than Mini-Pearl with some splotches of darker gray. We'll see!
