    Raising a wild turkey(s)

My father-in-law was cutting hay and ran over a turkey nest, killing the mother before he realized it. He brought us around 5 eggs, but since we trashed our incubator we couldn't hatch them. Well, my daughter gave them to a friend was hatching chickens. Today we are quite shocked that one...

    Sjuttons Scrap Wood Feeder

I copied the large scrap wood feeder idea from the learning center. Look under "large feeders" for the original concept. I added a hinged top cap to prevent roosting on top. Used 3/4" plywood and 3/4 OSB board that I had laying around. Also had a piece of an old cabinet (the blue part at...

1 doz (or so) Hatching eggs wanted - good egg layers

Hey all, We are looking for some hatching eggs to set by the end of November. We're not too picky about breeds (variety is fun!), but it would be nice to get a few good layers. Steve (in Upstate South Carolina)

Copied the 50 lb scrap wood feeder design.

Hey all, I copied the 50lb scrap wood feeder design from the learning center. Worked out great. I recommend it if you got access to scrap wood and have a pretty dry coop. Got some pics on our page. Steve

~Test Hatchers~ All Have Been Shipped

Quick Question: When I receive eggs in the mail what do I "do"? I read where someone said they were letting them rest. We have incubated several batches but never from shipped eggs. I have already spoken with our mail carrier and he's going to call from the post office so I can just come get...

Chickens laying for months now NOTHING - molting?, Help!

Our chickens have been laying for 3 months now. On Sunday we removed an "extra" roo from the coop. The laying tapered off all week and then on Thursday we got NO eggs. Is this due to the missing member of the flock. If so when will they get over it? Or is it something else? I have noticed...

    39 eggs in incubator question

I think we'll try it since even with 14 they kept knocking each other around. Does it matter on the material - strofoam or cardboard?

    39 eggs in incubator question

Ok, this is our third hatch. First hatch - nothing - long story revolving around oil on eggs. Second hatch - 9 out of 14 - we were pleased and the chicks are now around 4 months and we are looking forward to eggs! Third hatch - 39 eggs - due this wednesday - we are acting as surrogate...

New chickie question - please help!

We have a total of 9 day-old or a couple hour old chicks. A couple of them had pieces on shell stuck on them and their fur is kinda dried and matted. Should I attempt to clean them when we remove them from the incubator? Also two have dried stuff on their tommys - same question as above.
