Well my girls started laying a few weeks ago...
I have 10 Barred Rocks and 2 Rhode Island Reds full size hens, the first egg we got seemed to be about the normal size of a large egg except it was a little skinny... Ever since that the eggs seem to be perfect in shape but just smaller...
I called QC supply and the rep said 5/32", I didnt try to argue but a 5/32" hole will be smaller than the nipple it self... I knew it would be bigger around 9mm or 11/32.
Now the next question, would i need a PRV(pressure reducing valve) if i hooked up the hose to the pipe the nipples will...
I tooks some advice from the forum and am in the process of changing my watering set up to nipples...
I recieved the nipples from QC Supply but there was no instructions on what hole size to drill in the pipe...
I believe i have read on the site that a 9mm drill would work in PVC pipe then...
What are the advantages of slitting vs Chopping?
I processed 5 this weekend and used a timber with 2 nails, I put the head between the two nails and stretched, then i choped...
they flopped for a minute while i held them, it seemed quick and easy...
Is it better for the chicken? the end is...
When you soak the birds after butchering, what is the salt to water ratio?
Does it matter?
i have also heard of using applecider vinager and water...
Are there any advantages with either one?
out of 14 broilers i have 6 left, hopefully ill be able to process them all in the next 5 weeks...
All my other birds seem to be fine i started with 12 Barrded rocks and have 11 and like wise with RIR's started with 3 lost 1
All and all i have lost around 10 or so dayold chicks out of my 30...
thanks for the replys...
I did check to see if they were pasted up, cleaned the ones that were...
the heat light is in the corner so they can move away from the heat lamp...
I havent had a problem with the other chicks (Barred rocks and RR's) just the Broilers...
I will check the last 7 later...
The crate has closed sides (old shipping pallet/crate)
Im not feeding them Medicated food just plan chick starter...
if anything the temp is a little warm...
thanks
Ok, so i decided to try to raise some broilers...
Got 14 last week from a hatchery, put them in a large holding crate 4X4 with a broiler light
I feed them 20% chick starter for food and have a gallon font with vita pack supplements in the water, i recieved the broilers with some barred rocks...
Has anyone raised White leghorns to eat? If so, how was the quality and how much longer did it take to get them to butchering size? Is it worth is over ordering broilers?
Looking at Meyers 100 roosters are only .51/ea, seems to me the extra time and feed will still be cheaper than ordering...
