Oh so sorry to hear about your hen that didn't make it. Today "whitey" seems a bit better and has been free ranging this afternoon although he is moving slow. "Blacky" is not looking good at the moment although she was eating yogurt yesterday and this morning but now she can't hold her self...

Broody Bantams for Sale x 2 - Gold Coast, Queensland Australia

We have 2 bantams that are constantly broody. We let them have chicks once but we can't really do it again because we do not need anymore chooks. They only seem to be happy when they are sitting on eggs or raising chicks so we have decided to let them go to a new home where they can raise chicks...

Is my hen molting or sick ?

Quote: I forgot to mention - I did give her some garlic, mince meat, and probiotic-live active culture yogurt (not all at the same time) as well as extra TLC so I don't know if any of those helped. She wasn't interested in much other food or grain but she does like all the above and couldn't...

Is my hen molting or sick ?

Just thought I wouuld give you an update. Whatever it was, she's snapped out of it. I've been monitoring her the last week and she's back to her normal self again and she's also back to laying eggs again for the last couple of days. I think it must he been related to the molt and maybe because...

Electric wire to keep chickens on our block of land

Quote: Hi all I realise it's been over a month since my last posting - but thought I'd give you one last update. We looked into the electric wire option but there seemed to be too many people saying there's only a 50% chance of it working due to many different reasons so we didn't want to...

Is my hen molting or sick ?

Hi all It's just coming to the end of the molting season here in this part of QLD, Australia and my 6 hens which are about 12-18 mths old haven't been laying as regular as usual over the last couple of months but they are just starting to lay more regularly again over the last week. 5 out of...

Electric wire to keep chickens on our block of land

Hi again Thanks for your input everyone. I forgot to mention that the other reason we don't really want to put up a high fence is because Kangaroos go back and forth between the blocks of land here and we don't want to block their path. Also we are on 2 acre blocks here so that's a LOT of...

Electric wire to keep chickens on our block of land

Hi there We have 7 chickens and for the last year things were great until the recently they discovered the neighbours yard and dug up their gardens. We live in the bush on 2 acres and there are no fences on any of the blocks in our street and we cannot afford to fence along the whole one side...

What age can cockerels leave the flock

Thanks again for your feedback everyone. I think I'll give it another week or two at least until they start crowing to make sure they are definately roosters, then I'll see if I can find a good home for them (hopefully someone who doesn't want to eat them).

What age can cockerels leave the flock

Quote: A few people have suggested that I keep them for future eating but I just can't 't do it and I don't really want them to goto anyone else for dinner either. I'm hoping they can go to a good home where they can just be roosters.
