    Warming up my cold chicks

Thanks for the information! I stopped using the lights at night after your message. It took about 3 days before they would go inside the coop at night without me having a flashlight & showing them all was fine in the dark corners. Now they go in at dusk/dark by them selves & roost at the very...

    Warming up my cold chicks

Thanks for all the info!! I haven’t used the lamps since I posted but I still worry with every cold snap but they seem just fine!

    Warming up my cold chicks

Are you really serious? I haven’t read anything about it making them crazy or effecting their eyes. I’m not sure you realize how big of a shed they are in or maybe where the lamps are. I have the lamps hanging from a 6 foot plant hanger so unless they are on the roost it does not help much at...

    Warming up my cold chicks

Thank you so much!! Yes they are a kinda strange mix. My sons eggs when he had a Barred Rock Rooster. The hens that had the eggs are spotted Sussex, Barred Rock, Bantam and 1 sex linked hen. We hatched 25 eggs & I have I think 8 Roosters & 17 hens! I am so attached to them already!! Lol

    Warming up my cold chicks

Help I need some advice. First time chicken owner & I have 25 8 week old chickens. I had to move them outside about 2 weeks ago. They are in a wood & tin shed with 8 packages of pine shavings on the ground. I have 2 250 watt heat lamps hanging over their roost. They have been fine with temps...

    Inside vs Outside

Woo Hoo!! I sure hope so because although they have a room to themselves it’s a BIG job keeping everything clean & scrubbed!! Lol

    Inside vs Outside

I have some chicks that are between 5-6 weeks old. They are much larger than any other chicks of that age that I have seen! Because of the time of the year (I live in lower Alabama) I have been keeping them inside in a large puppy pen. However they are flying out now. How old should they be...

    Introducing new hens to flock

What are the best ways to introduce 2 new hens to my flock? I have them in a crate near the coop now & it’s been 24 hours. These hens are a lot more wild than my flock who come when call & eat out of my hands! The person they came from free range only! They do not provide a coop at all, just...
