    Love my spitz girls…both just started to lay after molting. They lay pretty consistently year round, and are 3 now. They are the most curious and interesting birds I have!

    Frostbite on comb - what to do

    My roo got the tips of his comb frostbitten; I left him alone until they were starting to bleed. Brought him in, carefully washed the comb, dried it and added styptic powder. Seems fine

    Sand-coffee hybrid bedding?

    I use sand in my coop and have added used coffee grounds from the local Starbucks. My younger birds and regular chickens don’t seem to mind or care. I haven’t seen any odd behaviors or issues. So works for me!

    I have a Hentronix door. Love it! Girls are nice and secure…once you get the hang of programming it, it’s great.

    There is a BYC member who makes similar ones..from Oklahoma I think. It was less expensive and just as good…maybe someone can help you find the name?

    I love my Appenzeller Spitzhauben…he has really turned into a great bird. Gentle with the girls, curious, always on alert, and people friendly.
