My alpha male does this right after I give him frozen peas. He exhibits the behavior toward me even when the other ducks aren't nearby. I took it to mean he is happy 😊
I have 2 m/f pairs of geese, Embden and French Toulouse. I also have 2 roos, 35 hens, 3 drakes, and 10 female ducks. My geese go vocally nuts and attack any drake or Roo trying to mate. I have no idea why, but have wondered the same.
I had 2 broody mommas hatch out chicks a few days apart. I just watched one momma kill the other momma's week old chick. Yesterday the other chick mysteriously died. I am now guessing it was my murderous Astra White as well. My poor experienced Astralorpe lost the whole litter of 2.
I received a Lakeshore Egger from Meyer about a year ago. She is a light buff color, friendly but prefers to be off on her own away from the other hens. Her eggs are large but gray in color not blue or green. She lays 4-5 eggs a week.
My Lavender Orpington & Barred Rock started laying between 7-8 pm. It seems when I let the hens free range, one or two decide it is a good time to use the nest box that all 15 fight over.
