    Buff Orpington Gender

I had this exact same issue, and my Buff Orpington didn't start to look like a rooster until very recently, about 16 weeks. He was very slow to develop.

Hen or Rooster - Buff Orpington

Thank you so much for the help everyone! I've got someone interested in my Brown Leghorn roo, and I didn't want to re-home him unless I really had to. My daughter would be devastated to see our Buff go.

Hen or Rooster - Buff Orpington

He is crowing, but it's such a sad sounding crow. It's very underdeveloped compared to our Brown Leghorn. Could this be because he's a late developing roo? Or do some hens crow too?

Hen or Rooster - Buff Orpington

After talking with my husband, who works from home a lot, he said that Kevin (our Brown Leghorn Rooster) and Buff Baby (our Buff Orpington) basically go back and forth crowing all day. They seem to be getting a little more feisty with one another as well. We couldn't tell if this was breeding or...

Hen or Rooster - Buff Orpington

We're nearing the 16 week mark with our chickens. My other two roosters showed themselves weeks ago and I was able to re-home our Rhode Island Red. About a week ago I was watching my Buff and realized "uh oh...she might be a rooster too!"

Hen or Rooster - Buff Orpington

Hi Everyone! I'm hoping the experts can help me out, as this is my first season caring for chickens. We purchased 8 chicks in April and have already re-homed one of our chickens, as we ended up with 2 roosters. Now I'm wondering if my Buff Orpington is a rooster too! She/he makes a terrible...

    Our Coop is Finally Finished!

The poop board sounds like a great idea! We were thinking about moving the lower perch to the same height as the higher one, on the other side of the window. So adding the poop board would be pretty easy if we moved it. Great suggestion. That will give them cleaner flooring to walk around...

    Our Coop is Finally Finished!

What started out as a venture in repurposing an old shed on our property has turned into a really nice chicken run and coop. I’m so excited with the final product! We started by breaking down and old shed that was located outside of the fenced portion of our yard, with hopes of rebuilding...

    We Finally Got our Chicks!

We've already named them, so it certainly was helpful that they all look a little different.

    We Finally Got our Chicks!

After work yesterday my daughter and I went over to our local Southern States to pick up our chick order. We got 8 chicks in total, 1 of each in the following breeds: Auaucana, Barred Rock, Rhode Island Red, Buff Orpington, Speckled Sussex, Cuckoo Maran, Golden Laced Wyandotte, and a Brown...

    Hello from Maryland!

Thanks for the warm welcome. After talking more with my dad last night, he's agreed that we should get baby chicks. So I feel a lot better about our plan so far. Now I'm researching my coop options. I was looking at The Garden Coop plans last night, but then I saw a coop converted from a metal...

    Hello from Maryland!

Thank you both for all of your helpful advice! I'm hoping to convince my dad that baby chicks are our best bet in regards to behavior and health. We'll see how successful I am. I have a few outbuildings on my property, however they are all drafty and few have power, so I'm not sure I have much...

    Hello from Maryland!

Hello everyone! My name is Kelsey and I live in a somewhat rural area of western Maryland. I own about 1 acre of land, in a fairly agricultural area of my town, and have been contemplating chickens for several years. I live with my husband and 5 year old daughter, however my parents live close...
