Livestock dogs to guard chickens and turkeys?

They are! But they free-range most of the time. The pups will be in a run of their own till they get used to the animals on the farm

Livestock dogs to guard chickens and turkeys?

Long story short: mom wants a pair of great pyrs to guard our chickens, turkeys, and farm cats. We have 60 some odd chickens, 6 turkeys, and 6 farm cats. Anyone got a guide on introduction of these new dogs to our flock? They'll be puppies, so they'll bond better to the chickens and what not...

    Keeping turkey pool mosquito free

Hi everyone! So our turkeys currently have fowl pox caused by mosquitoes that were laying in their pool during the tail end of summer. We did clean their pool out every other day or so, but I guess that wasnt enough! So I wanna know how to maybe keep the pool clean and skeeter free. Maybe...

    Caponizing turkeys?

So we ended up with too many damn toms, who would have guessed! The problem is is that my mom doesn't want to cull them all. They're all under a year old, but just about full grown. And the boys are FIGHTING!!! also to no one's surprise. Is caponizing adult turkeys a thing? Can it be done...

    Lame chicken help

He was able to feel that it was broken. Idk how I wasn't able to feel it, but an xray confirmed it. Since it's a clean break he's going to splint it and keep her on confinement rest for a few weeks with pain meds. Should fix her right up. All keep yall posted on how she gets along from there!

    Lame chicken help

Update! Went to the vet to try and rule things out. Turns out it's a broken leg. I feel so bad for letting her sit for so lung, but being in a small town the vet is busy with calves atm. She's there now to get fixed up. Here's to her healing soon!

    Lame chicken help

I hope not. Did see something about trying hypericum, which I guess wouldn't hurt. Kinda made the choice that if she's not better in another week it's best to cull her. Don't want to have to, but it's life.

    Lame chicken help

So she's doing a bit better. Only thing is, is she's now sticking her leg out behind her and just sitting on it like that. Sometimes she'll correct herself, but she will sit normally when corrected

    Lame chicken help

That's what we are thinking but we don't know. It was super sudden. I'm hoping it's just a sprain or something!

    Lame chicken help

As far as I know she's not vaccinated, as we got her second hand and didn't hatch her ourselves. She's fed several things: layer feed, wild game feed, a little bit of a seed mix, and whatever bugs she was able to catch. But that is a good idea on the tab in food thing, I'll try that in a sec!

    Lame chicken help

So one of our chickens, a Brahman yearling, is lame for some reason. One day she just stumbled out of the coop and fell over unable to use her legs properly. No other chickens are showing similar symptoms, so we quarantined her in our smaller coop. She's eating and drinking well, but she's on...

Do you know about how much a necropsy would cost? Do I have to set up an appointment or something? I'm just curious, sorry!
