    Cats and chicks/ chickens

You may need to keep your cats inside for a couple of weeks. My cats were obsessed with our chicks until they got a little bigger, probably between 6-7 weeks for my LF chicks and now they enjoy watching them but no longer view them as prey or toys.

5 week Wyandotte chick, hopefully not roo!!

If it's a blue laced red, the blue doesn't breed true and they can be blue, black or splash. I ordered one and she's a black blue laced red wyandotte. Idk about gender, but yours looks black too.

Young chicks with impacted crops from eating pine shavings

Thank you all for responding! Overnight their crops have gone down significantly so some of the mass is on its way through. I gave them grit this morning and they are eating and drinking and pooping normally. I don't know if it wasn't as bad as it looked and felt or if my prayers were answered...

Young chicks with impacted crops from eating pine shavings

My chicks are 8 days old and they are bedding eaters. They had been eating some pine shavings so I covered them with paper towels until they were older. However they kicked the paper towels away and I caught them devouring pine shavings. They no longer have any shavings in their brooder and only...

Chicks eating pine shavings, need advice!

If they are still full tomorrow morning what would you suggest I do?

Chicks eating pine shavings, need advice!

They only have paper towels now. Hopefully someone can advise me on their crops being full of (I think) shavings.

Chicks eating pine shavings, need advice!

I have 4 chicks who are 8 days old. They are obsessed with their bedding. They have pine shavings with paper towels over it right now, but they keep kicking aside the paper towels and wolfing down shavings. They know where their food is and like it, but shavings are so much more fun I guess. I...

    Behaviors that point to cockerels

My chicks are a week old tomorrow and are all supposed to be girls, but my blue laced red wyandotte is so bold and bossy and I'm afraid she might be a he. I know it's way to early to tell, but she/he will run out of their little warmth cave to see what's happening when I open their brooder (the...

    Anyone expecting chicks this week?

Here are my chicks! The pictures aren't the greatest. The lighting in my room where the chicks are isn't very good. This is Ginny the black blue laced red wyandotte. She's bold and a little bossy and I really hope that isn't an early sign that she's a roo because I really like her. This is...

    Anyone expecting chicks this week?

I replaced my dominique locally with an easter egger. Everyone is getting along great. To be honest I don't think the other 3 noticed when I added a new chick. They are all so charming and fun. I didn't realize that they would travel around as a little gang or that they would already have a...

    Anyone expecting chicks this week?

I don't know about their coloration, but your blue wyandottes are beautiful! My blue laced red wyandotte is a black and she's SO dark. She's also the smartest and friendliest. The little dominique died this morning. She wasn't as hardy or smart as the others but I thought she was fine last...

They're here and all 4 seem healthy. They're resting in their warm little cave now. :)

    Anyone expecting chicks this week?

Well my chicks left spokane again this afternoon, which doesn't even make sense. What were they doing all day? But the post office seemed confident that they should be here first thing tomorrow morning.

chkva your chicks are so cute. The delaware is particularly beautiful. An advantage of a hatchery is also sexed chicks. We live in town and can't have roosters. We have a tractor supply, but they have very poor selection (cornish x, red rangers, something black with no label and nobody knows...
