    Not impacted, but?

Thank you! I wasn't sure how to proceed. Can regular vets test for worms? Or cocci?

    Not impacted, but?

I picked up one of my chickens yesterday and a bunch of liquid came flowing out of her mouth like a fountain. I pressed in her chest area about three times and still a bunch of liquid came out. It is not smelly. I checked again this morning, she is staying in the coop. More liquid came out...

    Male or female

Size is no guarantee of anything. Not size of wattles or anything else. Most common in males, yes. But not a sure indicator. Wait for the buckwheat. Have never heard of anybody - ever - with a male that makes the buckwheat sound. Call Guiness Records, gguineasfamily. Ya either have a record...

Anyone share guineas and chickens in same coop?

Mal, I thought about that. I've heard that if I leave them cooped for about 6 weeks, they will call it "home." I guess worst case, I'd just swap sides and give the chickens the new home. Hmmm... Ponderous...

Anyone share guineas and chickens in same coop?

I've got chickens (20) and guineas in the same coop but the guineas (14) are brutes. I need to change something so my chickens will have a more peaceful home place. They both free range almost every day, but coming to roost is when it gets difficult. The guineas don't want anyone near them...

    Male or female

Yes, the buckwheat is the definitive indicator. While only the females will "buck-wheat" (or, per-quack, as my friend says), both sexes will sound off the chi-chi-chi.

    Oxine, anyone?

My understanding is it needs to be activated to be effective against some of the things we would have concerns about - salmonella, etc. Also, my understanding is that it is NOT considered organic.

How do you know when to worm your chickens?

    That makes sense. Thanks.

So...."necessary" is twice a year? Per your post #4 response.

    Sneezing Chickens

I have 37 adult chickens and guineas. I noticed sneezing a while back in several of the ones that I hatched myself. There are 4 roosters that are 4 months old. I have them quarantined and we were watching them this morning. I'm thinking I will just cull them because they seem to have issues. The...

Watch your heat! This happened to me and I changed the lightbulb to lower the heat. Fixed it almost immediately.

How early and how often do you candle your eggs?

Sorry! Maybe next time. I understand that fertility rate is pretty low when getting eggs in the mail. ;(

How early and how often do you candle your eggs?

I hope it goes well for you! Anxious to hear responses. Some are strict about the lockdown, humidity, etc. Some are more laissez faire and will candle at will, knowing the mom gets up and moves sometimes, will sometimes leave the nest for a sip of water, etc. I've only incubated 3 or 4 times...
